Having struggled for hours before finding a suitable name for this thread that wasn't a overly long "Fantasy Elven Dragon Immortal Highlander Warsaber", I finally settled on the very unimaginative "Dragon Sword".
I commissioned this sword right on the birthday of Purna Darnal of GGK fame in April (Easter Day) just as Jan Motycka of Swordmakery ElGur told me that he began working on the last of my "Prayer Swords" (and first of my commissions ever).
Being his birthday, and probably the last blade I will ever commission before a long long time (saving for buying a house), I wanted this project to be as much his as mine. Just let his creativity flow freely.
The idea began from some fantasy designs taken from left and right in the Internet but most notably from Horhesoloma's Sword of Echtelion design (I did purchase the 3D models and their license some time ago).
Purna was very interested in the design even when he wasn't so sure about its faisability (notably, the overall shape). Still, he was ready to tackle the challenge.
(first sketch)
For the blade, we chose to do something simpler and straighter.
(he actually tried acid wash but had to toss the blade in the hand, it became too thin)
For the handle, we first thought of using horn and brass but the 3D design was way too unreasonable to do by hand.
So we searched for other ideas.
(brass work for the guard and pommel)
(finished pommel)
The first idea was to use horn slabs for the handle material :
But Purna wasn't confident in his ability to make the details he wanted on horn. So we switched to brass (way easier for him and true to my bling tastes).
He put an ungodly amount of work in his brass carvings.
And the same can be said for the scabbard too.
(sketch design of the scabbard)
(the actual dragon for the scabbard chape)
All these carvings took the better part of 4 months (when Purna's capable of churning custom projects in two weeks top) and he had to take care of his brothers who got Covid during this period too.
(almost ready for joining)
After some polishing and joining :
Point of balance :
(forgot to ask the weight xD)
