Yup, and this is only a quick 20 minute 400 and 600 grit polish without removing all the stripes. Looks even better live, you have to get up close to see the polish marks. It's good enough for display. And I think it looks better when not counterpolished.

Nice Review Sir! I might have to grab one of these as a project blade, looking like they might polish up pretty nicely considering the price, wonder what the heat treats are like... I actually really like the look of that "Quenchmon" not traditional by any sense of the word, but as far as an aesthetic alternative to wire brushing at that price point? pretty tasty. +1 for the review, the taken chances, and the Kiai!

Just thought i would add this as it interested me and was a good confirmation that the "Quenchmon" on these swords was actually more than an etch or some similar aesthetic only effect.
someone asked about the Uno kubi that they are selling at the moment. and they had this to say (from the ebay listing)
Question & Answer
Q: Hello, can I get this katana with tsuba F instead of the Musashi double ring? Can you also explain to me how you get a temper line on a through tempered blade? Apr-02-09
A: Hello, you can get this katana with tsuba F.Our approach is Before the steps POSHING,Heating the blade body Reached a certain temperature, then into the water,This process is almost like clay Tempered,My understanding is that because the back of the blade thick than the edge, Tempered different extent, resulting in a dividing line.Have visible lines,it is the same as the effect of Clay Tempered,Under fluorescent lamps,Will be more clearly. Best regards jacky
colour me interested in getting one of these in the future.

Reisz: I didn't test the blades for flex as I might a normal Through Hardened Katana because of the 'hamon' question... being that I am unsure exactly what it indicats.
Even with that explaniation you found (kudos BTW) I'm unclear if there is a diffrence in hardness between the hamon area and the rest of the blade... and thus if I flex test it, it may take a set. I will say that the 2 liter bottle that both of these blades cut with no problem is NOT as simple a target as you might think. If you look at a previous review of mine, of the Bushido Raijian Folded Steel Katana, it took a prett bad set on a 2 liter bottle test cut... showing me that the Raijian was not very flexable and had little to no heat threat. These two sword cut threw the 2 liter with no problem at all... so the blades are a bit tougher then the Raijian at the very least.

Update. I received prompt response from all my letters leading up to and after my purchase of these two katana from the seller... and I received prompt response on my first question about the cracked tsuka... where I was basically told to glue it and that I probably did it myself because I don't know what I'm doing. I sent back a letter saying the crack was too wide to glue together, that the sides of the crack could not touch one another so they can't be glued. I also explained that I have taken apart many katana, from other pieces in their price-range to 5 times more expensive, and that I know how to do so. I have, as of yet, received no response from them. All correspondence up to this point was in less then 24 hours, it has been 5 days since I sent my last letter with no word. So, it looks like, as Sam suggested, they want nothing to do with standing behind their product in this instance. Like many new sellers on Ebay... their customer service may have been better in the very start because they needed to build up some decent feedback to be viable. Fellow Forumite ichiban had a very similar problem earlier on in their selling... and they offered to send him a new tsuka or new sword at not cost to him. Obviously very different then they approach they have taken with me. So... do be aware of this should you chose to go this route. The customer service after the fact may be... unpredictable.

anyways +1 for the review! I too have to deal with a tsuka that is cracked/broken and it really sucks! That was a bumer on what was, up to that point, a surprisingly plesent experince with a new seller. However, s@#t happens, like the t-shirt says... the much bigger disapointment was the way teh seller handled it. One reply that basicly blamed me for the issue... and then no replies after that when I explained that I know full well how to dismantle a katana and that the crack was almost certainly NOT the fault of my dissasmbling the sword. Given how they treated ichiban, I was hopping for better, but am not surprised. As ichiban himself suggested, it's likely their customer service was of higher standards while they needed to build some feedback... and will not be hit and miss at best.
