Windlass Greek Spear & Butt cap by Brian Stine I really like spears so I bought this just to see how good the quality would be. I ordered it the same time I ordered a sword so it came boxed with the sword. The blade is blunt, and it had a few blemishes on it as well. The spear is around 16 inches with a blade around10 inches. the butt cap is around 8.5 inches. I got the pole from home depot and tapered it so that the spear & butt cap would fit. I also had to drill some holes to mount the Butt cap. I stained the staff with a light walnut stain. The finished Spear! My Brother Gave me an old DVD player, that he said worked... it didn't so I decided to have fun with it. I was hitting the floor so I put the small phone book on top. Even the Butt cap can be used as a weapon! The blunt edge of the blade made a bigger hole when penetrating the player. I bought the Spear & Butt cap from kultofathena.com/spears.htm The Spear was $42.95. The Butt cap was $19.95 I would recommend this to anyone who likes Spears !

Nicely done review my friend! There are so many accursed medieval weapons and armors to choose from! However, I may get a job at Subway soon +1 for the excellent review

Yet another item that is not available to aussies, grrr! Looks nice mate, if there is one thing I would like it is a good spear. Also I would be disappointed if the buttspike wasn't useable as a weapon, considering it was not only there to better balance a spear but it was also there to be used if the spear head broke. Spears are such simple and effective weapons they are often overlooked in favour of more flashy weapons.

Very nice review. I've tried my hand at spear throwing in the past, and my results were mixed at best. I think I might try my hand at it again after reading this.

Weird, customs told me double edged blades cannot be legally imported into Australia.

Well I might get a call from them or not ....... We will see ........ it says specifically on the customs fact sheet about daggers however this is not ...... and if they didnt want spear heads then they should amend it to say spear heads plus the edge isnt sharpened so it might get credence ......... here it is "Sharp pointed, concealable, doubled edged knives (please note that both edges do not need to be sharpened to be considered double edged). Traditional long swords and bayonets are excluded" Not a knife, not a dagger, not a problem .........

Hmm, well if that is the case I'm not complaining at all, although if I got one I would mount it on a short shaft because I like my weapons shorter.

Yeah same, I like it to just have enough range to keep a swordsman guessing, but short enough it can be manuveured without giving an opponent to much oppurtunity to close in past the point

I like to be able to utilise either end of the polearm in a dizzying series of constant rotations that leave the swordsman guessing where it is going to come from and the angle of the attack. Needs a red tassle though

He he chinese style ........ I'm sorta for combining it with a shield or other weapon, keep it stabbing and when the swordsman tries to close in give em a stab ....... Talhoffer or some such had a funny play there two armoured knights would have a spear and a longsword and would lay the longsword in the crook of their arm and slip thrust the spear over it and it either got thrown or discarded at a closing in point and the sword work was done, found that kinda neat

Shield and spear works extremely well especially if you have one of those lovely big round shields the vikings favoured, I have seen how effective that is. Fighting WMA spear requires an 8-9 foot spear. Gotta love the ole chinese style spear work, it incorporates two things I love, fire twirling and weapons.

Nice spear. I like the big broad cutting head. I have long suspected that in the bronze age this style spear was used much like a 15 th century longsword to make both cuts and thrusts. You can perform almost any longsword move with such a spear with minor adjustments to technique.
