Sorry to go off topic, but I just ran across this www.samurai-warehouse.com/masahirobamboo.html, and since we were talking about the Bamboo...the only thing that's off in the description is the tsuka length, which is 12" on my Bamboos, but listed as 10.75 on that site. Perhaps just a typo? Everything else looks right on. Could this be the same "Bamboo" that several of us have purchased on eBay for less than $80 USD shipped? The price on that site is 124.95 GPB, which is curently about $245 USD... If so, then no wonder these swords are so damn nice! That is the Masahiro Bamboo. I measured the blade and tsuka length on my computer screen, then scaled up the blade to full length and used that multiplier on the tsuka and it came out to be 12 inches long. I also contacted the dealer and asked for the model number. Wow! I guess I got a better deal on the 2 Bamboos I bought than I realized... Thanks for the confirmation, Sol. Oh, and welcome aboard.

I'm 6'4 but I much prefer shorter katana blades that are unproportionate to my size I think that sword weight and size is really about preference After all, no-one is proportionate to an o-dachi.......... except maybe this guy img69.exs.cx/img69/6636/38ya.jpg

Don't the masahiro bamboo swords have 27 inch blades? Maybe you could splurge the money on one to see how long/short it is, that way you get a good sword for only a little-monies, and you can calibrate a good length sword for you. To be honest I think the 27'' nagasa will be perfect for you. Is $115 a good price for these? What's the difference between the "thin" and "heavy" blade? (Which is better?)

...WOW, could any one man be enough for her ?? I don't mean to brag, but I hit that. It took weeks to get her to stop calling though, something about "Best she'd ever had" and "No one else had ever done for her what I did" Blah blah blah.

Is $115 a good price for these? What's the difference between the "thin" and "heavy" blade? (Which is better?) Well? Are you referring to the Masahiro Bamboo? If so, yes. The starting bid on eBay used to be $49.95 with $25 shipping. I got both of mine at this price ($74.95 each, total), but having had the chance to handle and cut with them, I would happily pay 3 times the starting bid, were I still in the market for one.

I don't think I got my point across. What I'm saying is that it is commonly believed that the Masahiro "Bamboo" sword was made in limited quantites for a company that somehow didn't go though with the deal, so several other retailers (most prominantly the two sellers on eBay that most of us on this forum bought our Bamboos from) stepped in and grabbed them up for a fraction of their original value (sort of a blowout sale by the manufacturer) and reflected this savings in their retail prices. Whatever the truth of the story is, the fact remains that the Bamboo has become a much sought after sword in the past year, since the quality to price ratio is firmly in the consumer's favor. Back when they were common on eBay, you were basically getting a sword that should have sold in the $100-150+ range for $50 (minus shipping). Since they are no longer listed on eBay, the chance (at least for now) to get one at that price is unfortunately gone, so anyone who buys one now can expect (if they can find one) to spend closer to the original intended market price of the sword. In this context, $115 is a good price. Damn! In restrospect, I should have bought 4 or 5 more Bamboos when I had the chance, then sold them for maybe $125 a piece... ;D

Given the Masahiro Bamboos' cutting ability combined with the blades durability not to mention things like real same, nice quality fittings, two mekugi (just look at the quality of the mekugi for example - they're chamfered and properly finished - how often do you see that ?), tight ito etc. I would put its' value in the $150.00 plus range.
To get a sword with this quality and ability you would likely have to spend at least that much.
