Hey Mike... does that mean Gus isn't selling the tactical blade line anymore?

Hey Mike... does that mean Gus isn't selling the tactical blade line anymore? The tactical line was selling through Christian Fletcher. As I understand, sales were... um... less than desired. Sonny Suttles at Valiant Armoury saw my Tactical Willow Leaf and really liked it (just like me). He got all the existing stock from Christian. I'm really looking forward to seeing what VA does with this line. They don't appeal to everyone. But they are outstanding swords for cutting or what-have-you. I LOVES my willow leaf! It came with a para cord wrapped grip, which didn't work for me at all, so I removed it. The sword is now a work in progress. I will be showing it off after I finish a pair of fancy oak grip scales for it.

So Mike... the Tac Willowleaf you mention.. is it the same as the Tac Leafblade show on the site? That was my favorite hands down. Shame that they are not avalible anymore... I was hopping to pick one up maybe later this year.

It is a shame that the LPM swords are not more readily available, then again I can't afford one at the moment. Mike: Could you do some cutting with your LPM saber? I would like to see the mechanics if it isn't too much trouble

I was hopping to pick one up maybe later this year. Talk to Sonny........... its been my understanding that there will be some AT made Tacs made. But a final decision has not been made as to which ones....... Like the "Signature" lineup, there will be an "Elite" lineup with some US made products...... "Signature Elite" = Signature fittings and US made AT blade....... "Tac Elite" = AT made tactical......

That is one sweet-looking sword; Gus does excellent work though, I've been admiring his stuff from afar for years. Kudos on your acquisition, SM.

So mike, you were thinking of changing the handle length from 8 to 7 inch, any progress on that?
cheers,

From 2001 through the summer of 2003, there was an explosion of models milled out from Gus' shop. One of the things that came along was the evolution from the seven inch handles to nine inch. A good many of that development were to test eight inch grips and became a good feel for some of these models. This one with blackened hilts was actually one of his shop test beds for those grips. The standard 1319 was with a nine inch but this one was set up for eight inch grips. While I had never missed the feel of my XIIIa when cutting, the eight inch grip of this XIIa proved to be a remarkable addition in steerage by adding a bit more leverage on the fulcrum/pivot. I will say that that one inch did make a big difference in point control, and it being a XIIA left nothing lost to cutting but as far as general handling, the slightly longer handle made a big difference in the way steerage worked. it was not a matter of larger or smaller hands but simply a larger lever without feeling quite as ungainly as some of the nine inch grips became. More suited to the really long swords of the 15 series swords, Gus always felt if he were to do the 1319 as a standard, it would be with an eight inch grip. This svelt and deadly quick looking XVI Mike shows looks like it would suffer in shortening the grip. Again, not so much from a hand size issue but how the sword itself would best perform amongst many hands. Indeed the general dynamics that Gus had chosen for these apparently static dimensions was not a matter of abstract or visual balance. Believe me, the guy has a lot of hours in handling these things and his own preferences don't necessarily ignore what most will prefer. Cheers Hotspur; like many things, it's better to simply find another object to suit if the one in hand seems lacking

I've been considering ordering an ATrim and this XVIA one is a top contender (the other being the XIII triple fuller). Shootermike, have you done any more testing and any cutting with this one yet? Any further thoughts?

I was really impressed by the review of the tripple fuller, but I don't think a XIII is the good blade type for me - it's about the only thing that kept me from ordering it.

I see this Maker's Mark Type XVIa is now a Legacy Line model called the AT-1420 and it's still available with a hex nut pommel.
Good news!
