Absilits, what sort of resistance did you feel when cutting that stuff? did it sem easier than tatami? water bottles? how does it feel? how do you rate it as a cutting medium? inquiring minds want to know! The resistance is very comparable to the real thing. ... How do you know this? :-) Thanks for the vid, well done and very interesting.

Not to get too graphic(PETA is everywhere), I have done test cuts on pigs. Already dead of course. A pigs anatomy is very close to a humans, though the skin is a little thicker. I've thought about posting some vids, but am a little weary of the whole "cruelty to animals" thing. Rest assured I've never tried it on a person.

Poor piggies! hehe...
hundreds of thousands are slaughtered on a daily basis, I kind of doubt one that's already dead is going to harm anything :\

I wouldn't do pics or vids bro, just takes that one loud mouth type and before you know it you get a letter from PETA, I wouldn't give those bastards a reason. But I am interested in reading the results and comparitive studies with other targets like water bottles, bamboo, tatami or that ballistic gel. If your willing to, that is. thanks for the vids on the test cuts ;D

Tom your quote sounds strangely like " Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of their women". Yes I know, thats where they got it from in the Conan script. Now look here guys, I'm vegetarian and a major animal rights supporter etc. But if it's dead it can't feel anymore pain. You using it for chopping practice is no worse than sending it to a butcher for cleaving. It's dead, it lost all it's 'rights' long before hand, so cut away I say. Especially if you are still going to eat it's flesh or give it to the dogs. Please do make the most of your meats. Just don't invite me around for a barbie. You point out that a pig's anatomy is very close to that of a human. It's true..... As for PETA, that organisation has 'questionable motives' to say the least. Our local RSPCA has big get-togethers featuring barbecues with meat everywhere. Huh?

Huh? brendan, Its nice to meet a vegetarian who is not on a high horse or has an agenda ;D I have some friends who are veggies, and they hold the same outlook as you do. Unfortunately its always the ones with the agenda that gets the attention. As for the barbie, You're welcome anytime, We even have a grill thats used just for veggie burgers and grilling vegetables. No "dirty" meat has ever graced its surface.

Ballistics gel was developed as an analogue of pig legs for testing bullets. In other words, they compared the effect of bullets on pig's legs and the effect of bullets on ballistics gel. That means that it simulates flesh in relation to bullets, but that doesn't guarantee anything else. We do know that rolls of tatami mats were developed in the same way, in comparison to the bodies of executed criminals. Nobody is claiming that tatami is good for testing firearms.

I made ballistics gel according to Absilitis' recipe. Put it in a 2liter bottle for a mold then realized after it solidified that I couldn't get the gel out of the bottle. lol
I still have it - my first batch trapped in a 2 ltr bottle. I guess I'll have to go and cut it out of there... lol
Sorry no pics as I have no camera currently.

Just use a razor to cut along the side of the bottle.

I got the recipe from a friend of mine who is a big firearm shooter. Its actually a pretty simple recipe to follow. 4 pks knox gelatin per 1 cup warm water. Mix slow so that it doesn't clot up. If you get to many air bubbles it won't set up properly. Put the gel in the fridge for a couple of hours, till it sets up. Bring it out and remelt it, either on the stovetop over very low heat, or put the container in very hot water. after its liquid again, the remaining air bubbles will filter out. If you get too many bubbles while mixing, sprinkle liquid cinamin extract on top, it kills the bubbles. Normally about a half a teaspoon will do it. sorry i didn't see that one lol marc

No doubt it will smell lovely if you use cinnamon Wiwingti, but FYI, any alcohol will work for this purpose. It is a surface tension thing.

I would like to see someone cutting a human size block of this stuff. I suppose the logistics of producing that much gel would make it difficult.

Nah, there is a video circulating of a "martial artist" cutting a humanoid block of this stuff Here it is, at 7 minutes in. Beware, you may experience an unstoppable urge to laugh your ass off. Think they asked Sensei Obata to do this, but someone said he found it "grotesque and silly, and refused." If that's what he really said, who knows.
