I'm not sure if I've posted this in the right place - but I'd like for folks to see the carvings that my friend, Thedann does for scabbards and handles. Check out his collection here: /index.cgi?board=collections&action=display&thread=7525 I've just updated it for him with a couple more pix I found of his work. It is a sorrow that so much of it went out over the years without photos being taken. Below are a couple of the wall carvings he's done: I hate to shamelessly promote his artwork; but he has worked almost exclusively by word-of-mouth for decades - and I am so enamored of his works that I thought they needed to be shared with a community that has appreciation for such things! He's still learning to maneuver this site (and spending most of his time eagerly reading other folks' posts); but I'm sure he'd love to get some comments on his designs. ;D

He is incredible... I saw a thread where he posted a few scabbard pics... and a comparison to Jake Powning came instantly to mind... he deserves to be famous....

Hammersword and Thedann,
Thanks for pointing out Thedann's work to us in the gallery section. That is just beautiful, really nice. I often wish there was a way to leave comments in the gallery section.

Just a bit curious, does he free hand the designs, or does he draw them first. Those are beautifully done, and most have taken him a good deal of time to do. I have dabbled in some leather work and its a lot of fun, almost as addictive as sharp pointy things.

^Both... it depends. ;D
As my hobby is creating illuminated manuscript pages with calligraphy and knotwork; I occasionally supply him with celtic designs as well. He has a strong sense of most genres, though.
Oh - and you can either PM him or send a message to katwoodkrafts@yahoo.com
