Sorry to hear this and have it reinforce my distrust of humanity in general and eBay in particular. I am happy to buy things off Ebay I would never sell there for this very reason listed above.

Someone by the name of William Scott Cardin did a return scam on Ebay by getting his money back by false return claims and then keeping the sword as well. Ebay ruled in his favour because of their new horrible rules. When you appeal a return they all of the sudden ignore what ever happens and no matter what they say you’re wrong and the buyer can get away with what ever they want so they can compete with Amazon. First William said I never disclosed some marks in the description which I did and then when I won that appeal he doubled down to change his story and say the NBTHK papers were fake with them ruling in his favour even though I showed that I bought the sword off of Ebay myself. This sword is now for auction on Liveauctioneers with Sofie's Auction house. Please Boycot so this 2 faced low life scum William won't make a sale. My friend, I’m sorry you had to deal with this low life. Please file a police report against him in both your jurisdiction and his. Ask an attorney on advice on how to prosecute. I know people who got eBay to overturn a decision after getting reports showing a crime had been committed. And god knows I’m not afraid to start smacking people with the law if they cheat in a high value auction. Hope that works in crushing this scammer Shame he stole that sword. It’s a near treasure I would have been happy to own. PS: this and their ripoff fees are literally why eBay is my last resort. They’re losing all their sellers.

Contact liveauctioneers and report the sword to be fake and send them the findings from eBay. They will either accept the sword as fake and ban the sale, or authentic it and now you can reopen your appeal with eBay.
I've pretty much stopped using eBay. My last couple if sales were stressful and ended up not making any money to speak of.
Marketplace and Craigslist are also full of scammers now, OfferUp is still ok for the moment. I've nearly been got twice this year alone. Now I only buy or sell local, cash only. I don't use pay apps of any kind- twice I've used them and both times my card was compromised and I had to cancel it and get a new one. I also report each and every scammer to the host site and also to the FBI cyber crime division (you can do this online).
It's a shame that these greasy people ruin it for the rest of us

Very sad that this is human nature. I am sitting on a few items I want to get rid of but I am really unsure about selling online. Though it feels the bigger the site the bigger the chance of getting ripped off.

That sucks. Sorry that happened to you. Something similar came up on FB with someone else and I remember reading something months ago where online sites like EBay or Fb used to try and police and do good ethical/legal business practices and found they lost money and traffic by doing it so they went back to a hands off and “look the other way” approaches. Even though it means allowing fraud and scammers to exist with even less protections. Unfortunate and shows that some companies subscribe to “any business is better than ethical business.” Thanks for the heads up in case the same guy tries to buy or sell things here or elsewhere.

eBay/PayPal has has done this to me twice. They are thieves. Second time around I just went to the bank and put a stop payment on eBay and dealt with the creditors calling. Never looked at that account again and made a new one for purchases. Weird though, I think I've dealt with that person a couple times.

Never looked at that account again and made a new one for purchases. Weird though, I think I've dealt with that person a couple times. That's a good point that I think everyone should pay heed to. OPEN A SEPERATE ACCOUNT FOR ONLINE PURCHASES!!!!!! Protect your "real" money by cutting all external links to the bank. Use only a separate, special account for buying and selling online and any pay apps you might want to use- that way if the account is compromised, you can close it without affecting your ability to access your "real" money, and thieves can only take a very small amount. After you make a sale, transfer the money out of your account and into your main bank. Transfer money in when you want to make a purchase. Leave only a token amount to keep the account open. Pay your regular monthly bills through your bank, not directly to the vendor (utilities, insurance, mortgage, etc). That way YOU control the money, and the bank can instantly see every transaction and the creditors get their money with auditable receipts.

Sorry that happened to you. I bought a Nihonto tanto from that seller a while back, and everything seemed ok then. It's not right to keep a purchase and the money though! I hope things get resolved.

You may not want to deal with Facebook (I certainly wouldn't blame you), but an individual by the name of William Scott Cardin is active in a prominent Nihonto group.

You could post your grievances concerning William Scott Cardin in the Nihonto Group on FB. Show proof.

Meh … This was a year ago almost. Once I agree to EBay’s rules it’s pretty much out of the laws hands. I just waited patiently till it would show up again so I could drag his name through the mud. If it was a keychain or wallet I couldn’t give a sh*t. But the very fact that he lied about an object that has a whole purpose of honour and selfless sacrifice is what really upsets me. A samurai sword is also supposed to be a supernatural talisman to ward off and oppose evil. Apart from filing police reports in at least the buyers and your jurisdiction, with all your evidence I would email those police reports to his place of work so they can see he’s a thief. You got his name and address.

Ps your Kiku Mon sword was beautiful I should have spent the $$$$ I spent on getting a second rate broomhandle mauser on it instead. Then some thief wouldn’t be grandstanding around with it.
File your police reports, report him to work. Post your police reports in his Facebook. And then let’s see how smug he is.

I’ve read of many cases where the victim scares them into reversing their decision after showing police reports. They don’t want to be liable for enabling grand theft, especially of weapons. Burning him by mailing his employers police reports concerning his side gig will also scare him into not doing this again. A net good since selling big items can only work in atmosphere of trust. I’d burn this jerk if I could.

Yeah, but are you sure it is really him and not somebody who just used his identity? I mean, if you have the criminal energy to do a refund scam....

Like I said, contact the current auction house and report the sword as a fake and show them the eBay investigation. I would do it myself, but I don't have access to the ebay information so I can't authentic the story.

Fake papers. The whole nine yards. THEN after 3 leading experts said “it’s nothing but a pretty paper weight… this ass hole accepts my return but then REFUSES TO SEND SHIPPING LABEL OR REFUND. eBay stepped in a paid me back where I in turn made MY CLIENT WHOLE. If he wants to get in to this, I still have all of the messages from this psychopath including the threats and would be more than happy to have my friends (who have already banned him from ALL Facebook Nihonto groups… if that doesn’t tell you already)… come in this thread and give their opinions. I was so mad about what he did to this wonderful piece of history that I actually GAVE IT AWAY to a friend who studies Nihonto because again… it’s sempriniing worthless. Just like Stephen. God I was hoping to not have to deal with this tool bag ever again. He’s a thief, liar and criminal selling people damaged and ruined blades on eBay with FAKE NBTHK papers. Again…. I am the one who bought this for a friends collection. It was cracked in 4 places. FOUR!!! And what did this semprini head do? He tried to wield a slug of steel into the break and polish it out….(because now he’s apparently a professional togishi) 😂😂😂 but alas…. I sold me a ruined blade. All I wanted was to return it and get my refund. (Again I have ALL of the emails and proof should this fraud try to retort)… but HE is the reason you shouldn’t buy on eBay or from unknown sources. My name is still good in the Nihonto community where he IS BANNED… so you tell me.

Yeah, but are you sure it is really him and not somebody who just used his identity? I mean, if you have the criminal energy to do a refund scam.... Well, these sure are some angry words. Maybe get my side of it before lighting me on fire though… 😂🤷♂️ please read the threads below to get the whole picture. If you have questions, I’m more than happy to answer them. Long story short, he sold me a ruined blade… then accepted the refund… then refused to send shipping label and refund the actual payment so eBay stepped in. He tried to wield a slugg of steal into a beautiful piece of history… then forged NBTHK papers to sell a ruined blade. You can find me in almost ALL of the Nihonto groups because I love this history. I’m not trying to sell ruined Nihonto for outrageous prices to screw people over. All of the people I’ve sold to, I am still friends with and honestly,… in all my years this is still the only crazy thing I’ve ever experienced in Nihonto. Anyway… again, he is BANNED FOR EVERY…. SINGLE NIHONTO GROUP…. THAT RIGHT THERE SHOULD BE A RED FLAG FOR EVERYONE ON HERE. I wish people, instead of wanting to grab their pitch forks and string me up before actually hearing the facts. Stephen EDMUND is a lunatic and the moment he got caught, resorted to cuss me, threaten me, tell me he was going to hurt my family… all kinds of crazy semprini. I always… ALWAYS give my buyers a 3 day inspection period. Just incase they are not happy. This guy took the money, probably used it to buy a rock of crack and then said I was the one to blame. Just silly.

Listen… if you bought one from me, and I treated you right… why aren’t you asking what’s wrong here? Lol. I am a very active member of the nihonto community. I am in no way hiding or going to back down on this. I just am stunned that you and these other people would side with this maniac. Looks like I’m going to have to start a thread with EVERY SINGLE ONE OF HIS MESSAGES AND THE CRAZY THREATS AND THINGS HE SAID WHEN I CAUGHT HIM. I bought his busted ass Wakisashi for a client. I’m sure you know them if you are also in our Nihonto group. I made my client whole. Isn’t that what I was supposed to do? Hell I’ll bring them into this conversation and see what they have to say. Regardless… he is a thief, liar and a con and he tried to sell me a ruined blade. Go ahead and message me privately and I’ll dump the entire conversation with him and I in you inbox.

This ass hole tried to wield a slug of steel into the blade and polish it out, hide it and sell it at a premium and hope nobody noticed. I talked to 3 different experts who said and I quote “it’s a beautiful paperweight” then after I asked politely for a refund… this manic threaten violence. He’s a con. Man I’m WILLIAM! I’m not hiding from semprini! He’s not going to do semprini because he is a fraud and a liar… and now apparently a sempriniing togishi.
