For example:
I really like the US Cav M1840/1860/1913 saber hilts. Elegant & good hand protection. Together with a mid weight, well balanced backsword blade...
Feel free to post existing swords, antiques or repros, concepts or anything else.

Of course the answer lies in the eye of the beholder! Did you suddenly wake up from your after dinner nap, and decide that the mods haven't had enough to do lately?

Exactly! I sense a lack of discussion about swords lately.

I heard Katanas can cut through space and time itself. I have yet to ever find any video proof though.

Do you have one, do you like it?

Do you have one, do you like it? I have a number of them, both koto nihonto, and repros that I have custom mounted, and I like them all. For what I use them for, I like my 3 original Euro cavalry sabers, too. One's a Wilkinson style, one's a pipeback, and one's a very late Blucher series. What each is best for, differs. The underlying philosophical problem is that, IMHO, you can maybe argue for best of a type, but there isn't any one, single best sword overall.
If I had any reason to charge around in armor, I might make a case for the Oakeshott Type XIV.

This was addressed to Todd.
Treeslicer, what's your best sword? Is there a way to improve it or another of your swords to be your best?

This was addressed to Todd. Treeslicer, what's your best sword? Is there a way to improve it or another of your swords to be your best? For overall effectiveness, if I had to nukitsuke and kesagiri some oversized, belligerent, unarmored clown into cold cuts, it would be my Sengoku-jidai Mino katana. She ain't the prettiest thing I have, but for a great nimble cutter, Satsumi-yama is lovely to work butchery with. She can seriously disassemble livestock for barbeques.
For display and targets, it's a a futasuji-hi Ryansword naked folded-steel blade with spectacular activities on a gunome midare base, that I built onto with an antique tsuba and a salvaged early Bugei tsuka rewrapped with 1 1/2 layers of lacquered same, and leather ito.

Of course all the WTB/WTS/Identify my wallhanger threads here are so more interesting than talking about good swords.

Sorry if I came off like a putz. Thread title made me think it was a gag thread. I continue to say that my Albion Earl is my best all-rounded sword. I could never let her go. I've also rediscovered my love for my VA Krieger sword in the last few weeks. Feels quick in the hand while still cutting like a champ. But if I hear something go bump in the night, I would probably grab my LK Chen infantry Han dao. That little bugger is faster than lighting!

I agree, of all the swords I have owned I think the best sword of them all would be the Albion Earl or Albion Regent. It is the perfect balance of everything! Im happy someone else came to the same conclusion. And Ive owned everything in between from a Principe down to the very thrust centric blades and the cut and thrusts in between. Even my Brescia Spadona I feel is behind the Earl or Regent a bit, being that it doesnt seem as durable. Amazing handling and civilian dueling sword though. The Albion Earl and Regent just share the best blade for all around variety of getting the job done. Just depends on what hilt work is your preference. For general Jack of all trades and great representation of what a European longsword is. If I could only have and keep one sword for European ones it would be that. It's not going to cut as well as a principe though. But fighting humans it doesn't need to. Not that we are going to war with swords anymore. As for Katanas I have comissioned a 32 inch Nagasa SGT steel Multi Purpose Motohara Katana from Jason last month. I will report how I feel about that one when I receive it. I am first sending it to Matthew Jensen for a review and test cutting video though.

I'll be interested in seeing more on your Motohara, when you get it.

If the two were melded together it would be perfect to me. I put in an order for the Burgundian last month so I hope I get to say the same thing about it as well when the time comes. I've been tempted by the XVIIIc types before since they look stupid fun but I always find something else that catches my eye and wallet first.

Mine will be larger blade than the average size so that will be an interesting difference than the norm too. I actually have all my experience with training in Toyama Ryu Kenjutsu, same school as Jason. And not very much hema experience by comparison. I just like european swords and need to start doing Hema somewhere too lol

The best sword is the Swiss Model 1867 Cavalry Officer’s Saber. Obviously. Huge thanks to Markus for these photos, and for letting me adopt this fantastic example.

Not the most durable against hard target but cuts like a monster
