Congrats! I need to get a Dane axe from A&A some time. I recommend it! I've gotta say, as someone who has almost entirely handled swords (and the occasional polearm) in the past, it's pretty surprising how light, dynamic, and quick a two-handed axe feels. Plus, it'd make a cool review vid, of course!

Tempt me not, foul devil!
But seriously, that looks real awesome. I wonder how it feels in the hand compared to Albion's Earl and Regent.

I want a Windlass for Christmas... Avalon & 1860 Cutlass The Avalon is a really good sword. It weights 1280 g but feels much lighter. This is an example of good mass distribution which leads to a agile but still authoritative handling. Not much distal taper, but compensated with the strong profile taper. PoB is ca. 3" from the hilt. The long pommel is metal, but I believe it's hollow, at least partially. So the PoB is not adjusted by an overweight pommel, which makes swords hilt heavy, but by the mass of the broad blade near the guard. Excellent!

Thought I would share this here as well. I received a custom chakram made by Purna Darnal about ten weeks ago. It's the same size and proportions as Xena's chakram from the TV show. The underside is completely flat. So it has a very durable edge at quite an acute angle. It's wickedly sharp and I try not to hold it. The red substance set into the engraving is some sort of red enamel.

Just got a Bugei Old Pine. Really nice koshirae but the blade looks, well, not what I expected. Barely any visible hamon and it looks like damascus steel with the supposed hada.
Will post pictures as soon as the sun is out so I can compare natural light vs my lamps.

Thanks folks! This was actually a "happy accident" - I had ordered an ATrim XIIIb from age of chivalry, and got this sword instead.
I want to make sure this doesn't come off as any sort of disparagement of AoC - Brady was great and super apologetic once the mistake was discovered. I had placed the order on christmas day, he had prepped/packed my order super quickly, (it shipped out the day after christmas) in a Covid haze; he offered a refund/exchange with shipping taken care of when the mistake was discovered, etc; but I discovered that I realllllly like this sword and opted to keep it. I dig XIII's, and will probably go after another of Gus's at some point in the future, but Type Xa's have never really been on my radar, so I'm grateful for the serendipity. Maybe at least one bright side to the current plague!
