Does anyone have any sort of experience with this? Obviously it won't be a high end piece, but I'm wanting an affordable long seax for target cutting and costume purposes. If there is a better piece for an affordable price please let me know. grimfrost.com/products/seax-hedeby

Looks like it should be okay but I'm concerned about this bit in their description:
I hate to think of "chopping wood" as "actual use" for a seax, but I think I get where they're going with the warning. It's especially odd to me that they suggest a smaller knife for the "wood chopping" task...

I have the Grimfrost Viking Seax type II
I like it well enough and it seems mostly handmade. The leather on the sheath was a bit lighter in color and more of a suede than smooth like the product pics. Handle has a urethane type coating on it. Seems well made. A little leather dressing I later put on it made it look better.

I think that saex would be somewhat weak for chopping. I mean, within normal use limits its fine. Consider, it's not obvious how the blade is held to the handle. The rivets look decorative, so probably are not pins. So if this is held together with epoxy, I'd expect it to loosen if you try chopping machine gun barrels with it. At that price point, you can get about anything...so how 'historically' correct are you looking for it to be?

I was just looking for something that looked cool and "reasonably" accurate without having to go custom. Nah, not gonna chop metal or carve wood with it lol. I just thought 180 for a long seax seemed cheap in today's market and it looks cool with a sheath as well. I'll freely admit the whole reason I am looking is because of The Northman lol.

Another nice piece. I’ve got lots of options to chose from, which is good.
