If you go for the scratch test disassemble if possible and scratch in an area that will be hidden when re-assembled. Hopefully I can get it back together :-) Sometimes you take something apart and it never quite goes back.

from their website: "Ryan1359 is a functional replica of Conan Father's Sword. It is sturdily built, the blade is made of 1095 high carbon steel and full tang. The fittings are made of brass. The handle is made of hardwood and wrapped with synthetic leather cord. The sword will go with a synthetic leather cover to protect the blade." www.ryansword.com/Handmade-Conan-Father's-Sword-1095-High-Carbon-Steel-Brass-Handguard--Ryan1359-p-1229.html I' pretty comfortable with brass vs zinc alloy.
