I have been thinking of making a few instructional videos on how to throw axes. Just basic techniques that any one can pickup. ;D I figured I would ask if there is any interest before I went thruogh the trouble. So, if anyone would like to see this, drop a line. also I am not sure where to post it. Do I post in cutting vids, here, or somewhere else. if any one has any suggestion, I greatly appreciate it.

I think it would fit nicely with the cutting vids and personally I'd love to see a how-to on axe throwing

I'd like to see that too. I have a few tomahawks and throwing knives, but I don't use them that often, as I've never really developed a technique that gives me truly repeatable results. Bring 'em on! ![8-)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

Yes, especially if you can show some techniques that apply to all sizes, from small tomahawks to large two bladed axes!

I am sure that I can teach you to throw an axe bought at wal-mart ![:D](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) If enough people are interested( I think one is enough) than I'll get started.

I was thinking of a video on how to build a target, a video on the different handles and axe heads, and then the the last video would be the actual pace and throw. All videos would be based on a 16" handle found at all the highland games.

I probably won't throw any axes of my own... but I'm sure it'd be very entertaining to see it done and how to do it!

Two handed axes are fun to throw but also hard to do as well, very hard to do.

Two handed axes are fun to throw but also hard to do as well, very hard to do. Very true. and also dangerous. By "axe from walmart" I was meaning a hatchet or short handled axe ![;)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Absil: I think that it is a very dangerous proposition to teach people to throw axes that are not designed to be thrown. I think you should show how to throw throwing axes before you move onto axes that weren't designed to do it. It is dangerous enough throwing a properly weighted axe, let alone one that is not designed for it. I think the "walmart axe" as a first throwing weapon is a difficult proposition for someone who has never attempted to throw an axe before. If you want good throwing axes check out www.atar.com.

I think the "walmart axe" as a first throwing weapon is a difficult proposition for someone who has never attempted to throw an axe before. If you want good throwing axes check out www.atar.com. Bloodwraith, please allow me to clarify. The videos I intend on doing are aimed at regulation size, historically themed hand axes. The types used in Highland games and blackpowder society competitions. Having stated this, I believe I should point out that lumberjack competitions consistly use varying lenth, fiberglass handled axes in their games. These axes have had little to no modification, and most can be bought at any hardware store. Again, please do not take as an affront to you. I think if I ever saw a video posted here of unsafe throwing I would be the second to state my disapproveal, I feel you would be the first. The videos themselves WILL consist of a very stringent protocol when handling and throwing. I will go through the basic physics of how they work and explain in detail what can happen. I hope you are not offended by what I have said, and hope that if there are more concerns about safety you know that I will address any issue with an open mind and no aggression ;D

I in tend to record the video this week end. My friend is a teacher, and he wants to let his tech student do the editing. So it will post hopefully next weekend, if not sooner. If I get a good response, I'll most likely do a few. ![;)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

So, I couldnt get the video done this weekend. We tried to shoot it, but the wind kept cutting out the sound. It wouldnt been a big deal if I'd had a clip on mic, but I didn't. I'll try to get it done in the next week or so. ![:)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

While we are still waiting ![:)](//storage.forums.net/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) for the videos by absilits, I found this thread by Forumite Hissatsu that I thought pretty informative. I also noted that there are a couple posts by Hank Reinhardt written a few months before his death. I miss Hank's knowledge. /index.cgi?board=wma&action=display&thread=3576
