I was able to track the package on the SF Express website this time. According to them, it took about 24 hours to go from pickup to international transit. Not bad, so far.

It's interesting--of all LK Chen's fascinating rare designs, the one that I ended up wanting was the simple, ubiquitous Niu Wei Dao. It brings back teenage memories of Kung Fu practiced out of single-car garage studios.

Looking forward to feedback from you guys. That price point is very tempting for a nice one handed backyard cutter. I keep looking at that Yan Ling Dao though...

Looking forward to feedback from you guys. That price point is very tempting for a nice one handed backyard cutter. I keep looking at that Yan Ling Dao though... That Yan Ling Dao looks very nice, and I love (though some might not) the extremely sharp fittings cast from 3D-printed objects. If they could have, the Manchus would have made them that way.
While accurate in measurement to the original, this sword seems too short for use as a person of a more average modern western height. It would be great if LK would offer different lengths, though obviously the price would go up.

Regarding oxtails, I have the Hanwei. It has a blade length of 25”; 32.5” overall length and 1lb 13oz overall weight. According to Scott Rodell, it is of historical length. It seems short to me, though. I’m pretty average in height (about 5’11”), and the tip doesn’t reach my ear if I cup the pommel in my palm at my side.
I also have the Sinosword “fancy” oxtail, measuring in with a 28” blade; 35” overall length and about 2lbs 3oz overall weight. The sword seems much larger than the Hanwei, and is more proportional to my size. The hilt is much more grippy than the Hanwei, and the handling dynamics are better. The distal taper is more pronounced than the Hanwei, as is the profile flare at the foible. It’s a serious sword, and nimble in the hand.
On paper, the LKC is even better. The blade is two inches longer than the Sinosword, yet the overall weight is an ounce-and-a-half lighter. The website claims substantial distal taper. With an overall length over 36”, it is as long as some of my antique light cavalry sabers.
I can’t speak to the stats of other LKC sabers, but FB/YouTube reviewers seem to really like them.

Wups, my mistake.
My SFE tracking number shows my dao is still trying to clear Chinese customs.
Just a quick update.

I received the sword today safe and sound. I’m feeling a bit under the weather, but I’ll try to post my impressions soon.

I’m feeling a bit under the weather, but I’ll try to post my impressions soon. did yours come with the blackened iron fittings like they initially said it would have? or that gray wall paint looking finish they ended up doing recently for some people, that really makes a difference in the aesthetics imo the plain iron looks so much better

My fittings are gray. Dunno if black would be a ton better. Too much going on to do a review. Basically the sword is good - feels fast, well balanced, and has a very secure grip. It’s a competent fighter that suits my needs. The looks up close are a bit uninspired. Everything is okay, but just kinda plain. The originals seemingly weren’t all that great compared to katana or Euro sabers of the era. Oxtails were basic working-class civilian weapons, which LKC faithfully replicated. They are miles ahead of the old DF and CS models in handling, and at a much lower price. Not nearly as pretty, though.

Mine came with the grey paint. It had some paint chipped when I got it but was not bad. Feels really good. Fast and a good cutter. I also got two other swords the same day and made a couple of videos.

The latest Niu-Wei Dao upgrade. Iron fittings fire blackened and coated with clear lacquer to offer good protections against oxidation. lkchensword.com/niu-wei-dao
