Member sbgsword90331 registered 2 hours before sending me a message that some guy by the name of TRACE93 has a Hanwei Cawood available, and gave me a phone number. I'm not saying this is 100% a scam, but it definitely smells like one. I won't be following up, and suggest a great deal of caution if sbgsword90331 contacted you.
Edit: Other members confirm this is definitely a scam.

It's 100% a scam, they have actually been doing this for a long time and have messaged me multiple times for differend WTB's I have placed.
In the past hour they have DM'd me three times for different WTBs I previously posted using the same template.
"TRACE93 has a (Your WTB ad name) that he wants to part out for a cheaper price but because i'm not in the state right now, i couldn't purchase it from him maybe you should text him and see if he still have it for sale. Here's his number (number)"
Don't respond, publicly denounce them and get them to desist because this is annoying.

He also just sent me a message saying the "Trace" person had both the Sovereign and Talhoffer I was looking for. Very convenient he seems to have all the swords we're looking for. He provided a phone number. I am not in the US, but perhaps someone who is in the US can forward the phone number to the police.

No crime had been committed...why would the police get involved as they have no "probable cause".this is for the moderators to deal with...another person who needs to be banned.

One of the duties or functions of police is crime prevention. Contact from the police may at least discourage them from engaging with our forum members. If people made complaints to the police every time a scammer is identified, perhaps linkages could be created if similar phone numbers or emails or IP addresses were used. If the scammers are ever successful there would hopefully be a history of reports to draw information from. My two cents.

Acer has a point. I am sure there are fraud monitors this could be sent to as well.

Here in America, these days in particular of defund the police and short staffing, the police will not bother investing any valuable police assets in a simple petty theft case that has not happed yet but people are welcome to go ahead and try. Hell, it's hard enough to get the mods in here to deal with it...lol We all know it's a scam but can anyone "PROVE" the piece of filth's friend doesn't have all these swords? The only proof of the fraud would be the actual defrauding someone.

I am in Canada. I totally hear what you're saying, although to a lesser extent, our law enforcement bodies are feeling the same pressure. Our local police would probably do nothing more than put on a report and make a phone call. However, we do have an Anti-fraud call centre / site run in partnership with the Federal (RCMP) and Provincial (OPP) police agencies. It is specifically designed to track serial scams and make linkages even if the scams seem unrelated. I'm not trying to tell anyone what to so, my apologies if I came across that way. Just trying to be helpful as scammers really piss me off! And this is a great forum!

Just trying to be helpful as scammers really piss me off! And this is a great forum! It really pisses me off too and I take some heat when I call into question some for sale ads here on SBG that seem suspicious and turn out to be legit but I believe it's far better to be safe than sorry. There are a lot of young and unsuspecting sword buyers in this forum who need to be warned of possible scams and I'll continue to do so regardless of its affect on my popularity or lack there of here in the forum. Many young sword enthusiasts can not afford to learn the hard way with the money they have saved up for a sword purchase.

I think there's nothing wrong with advising caution

It's easy for someone to ensure that their ad does not look suspicious.
a friendly introduction, a why you are selling and a signed photo all go a long way.

I, for one, really appreciate the way Lord Newport and others look out for each other on this forum. It makes for a much stronger community.

If you receive a suspicious PM on the forum, you can directly inform a mod via PM.

Thanks pellius. Since one is already aware, I won't send one at this time but please do investigate the matter as this guy has PM'd many of us claiming a 3rd party has ALL the swords in the WTB forum and encouraging all of us to go do business outside the jurisdiction of the forum. All without any prior posts and within an hour of registering.
