I stand by Adam's work. I've been wanting a francisca myself.

Well it has arrived, fantastic build quality, took it out back and tossed it at a tree and bam sunk in the first throw, feels very nice in the hand as well, I can recommend his work. My only complaint is I wish the head was bigger.

Yay! I agree that it's a little on the small side, but that's the only complaint I can make about his work. If it's solidly built and can stick into your target, you have a winner.

I have one of Adam's francisca axe heads. I mounted it to a long straight fighting axe handle, and am very happy with how agile and hard hitting it is. I fully recommend Adam's work.

Yeah I plan to get a longer handle for it, this one came with it and it's a little small for what I think it should have. Which axe handle did you get for yours?

Yeah I plan to get a longer handle for it, this one came with it and it's a little small for what I think it should have. Which axe handle did you get for yours? I had a leftover length of ash staff (about 30 inches) I had purchased from Purpleheart Armoury years ago. I reshaped it into something more oval and ergonomic for use with an axe. I added a couple of leather-bound grip sections with underlying cord-wrapping and risers, and also created a lanyard hole and braided leather lanyard to go in it. It's become a pretty ideal fighting axe. I already had a francisca from another manufacturer to act as a throwing axe, and/or tomahawk-range fighting axe. I am just smitten by the shape of the francisca, and have wanted a high quality francisca head like this one to turn into a fighting axe for years.

That's awesome, I'd like to see a picture of it sometime when you get a chance, axes are my other weakness especially ones in the 8th - 11th century.

Handle length and head size look fine to me.

A short handle can be advantageous to a throwing axe. You get a shorter distance to rotation ratio, hence more opportunity for the head to strike instead of the shaft. I can't quote the physics but shorter ones also seem to strike with more energy.

Looks great, and I like shorter handles for throwing too. I probably would trim the top of the handle a bit on that because if the horn of the axe hit, and it was rotated a bit too much the end of of the handle could prevent it from going far enough in or pop it out.

I am so poorly coordinated that if I was to through an axe I would cut my own hand off. 😹😹😹😹
Nice axes. The sword and shield look really awesome though. Thank you for sharing.
