I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I'm like that with anything I have a remote knowledge of the real history, but I get that way 100x over when it comes to movies or tv shows related to the Crusades (*looking at you, Ridley Scott, and your Kingdom of Heaven crap!*). So sad... you never can watch historical movies nor TV shows. Knowledge is a burden...

I'd like to see the Homeric epics presented on the historical/archaeological straight and narrow, with recognizable Mycenaean and Hittite artifact types, just like I'd like to see an Arthurian extravaganza using Late Roman and Migration Age stuff. I'd bet that Arthur's "Companions of the Table Round" were a pack of mercenary hooligans fit to raise the hair on a rat's ass, BTW.
I found Shogun mildly enjoyable, but the only thing of Clavell's I've read that rings true to me is King Rat, in which he draws on his experiences as a prisoner of the Japanese. Similarly, I feel that Michener's best work is Tales of the South Pacific.

Like Treeslicer, I find it moderately entertaining, despite its inaccuracies. Its biggest plus is Richard Chamberlain. I've always liked him as an actor. Outstanding in everything I've seen him in.

Hello all I really enjoy this thread! Now...fast forward 4 years from the start date we have a new version of the "Shogun" story on the screen. I so far like it a lot. I am not "burdend" with too much knowledge of the period and hence enjoy myself but I understand those with knowledge and their concerns about the authenticity of the show. This happens to me when I see WW 2 stuff were I have a good knowledge. Anyway...on to swords. What do you all think about the swords we saw so far? I personally like the Daishō that was shown in episode 4 quite a bit. What are your thoughts? I am tempted to custom order one that resembles it. thanks a lot Uwe
