I want to get Jian soon as nice adtion for test cutting purposes. I am Student of HEMA though and have no experience in Chinese martial arts yet but I want to do some Research how to use a Jian.
I am not Looking for a super cheap Sword by the way. The Price range should not exceed 500 euro though.
The LK Jians are quite popuplar at the Moment, my two favourite HEMA youtuber (scholagladiatoria and Skalgrim) seem to like them as well.
I also like the LK chen designewise, they really look Beautiful.
Is it safe the save to say the Lk chen are one the jian in the Price range up to 500 Euro range or are there other manufacturers worth checking out?
I would be pleased Hearing a few opinions.

For Ming/Qing jian, the LK Chen Ming jian looks nice. Other good candidates are the Hanwei Chinese Cutting Sword (AKA the Scott Rodell jian), most jian from Dynasty Forge and Huanuo, and the Cold Steel Gim (which is basically the Huanuo Carp Jian). For Han jian, yes. LK Chen. Han jian are very different to Ming/Qing jian. The Ming/Qing jian is the jian for current Chinese martial arts. I see that Cold Steel has re-released their two-handed gim: www.amazon.com/Cold-Steel-Two-Handed-Sword/dp/B00062ASPE

I have a couple of LK Chen's swords, and intend to purchase more in the near future. I think they are an excellent value for their cost, and perform very well.

I have the Flying Phoenix from LK Chen and intend to buy the Frontier Tang Dao next month. Excellent bang for buck - the Jian is arguably the best I own. Go for them.

I also like their Dao, but I have a later peroid Dao already in my Collection, an Oxtail Dao from Hanwei, so I want to with a Jian this time.
I will order there soon. Maybe the Flying Phoenix or the Magnificent Chu

Their dao are very different from later period dao. It wouldn't be a duplication.

The more I learn about LK Chen swords, the more impressed I become.
The stats on their dao and jian look very impressive. The few reviews I’ve seen were all quite positive. The prices seem very reasonable, too.
Of their current offerings, I really like their “Gale Wind” Ming jian.
I kinda wish they would make a niuweidao. Other than the Hanwei and JKOO, I don’t know of any other makers of the type.

You got a point. I am aware that their Dao look very different from the later period Dao. For now I am more interested in getting a Jian.
But that does not mean that a earlier peroid Dao is out of the question. As a matter of fact I like the Dao offerings of LK Chen.
I am especially fascinated by the Frontier Tang Dao. I might get one at some point in the future.

how are the Sinosword jian? I can't speak to jian specifically, but I own multiple custom swords (and bare project blades) from Sinosword. I'm largely happy with their quality, but I have only ever made custom orders with very specific measurement guidelines for them to follow. Other people have had consistency and fine detail issues with their orders. The English language sales representatives are usually pretty good about communicating with buyers. Edit: FWIW, one of my custom swords is a hybrid niuweidao-katana, and it's a pretty monstrous cutter. Obviously, it's not a jian, but they have enough knowledge about Chinese blade design to be able to effectively mix them with another blade design paradigm.

Sorry for digging out that old post. I am now Ready to get my Jian. Due the current state of the world that could the lead to some delivery constraints I decided to postpone my purchase of an LK Chen jian to next year and start with Jian that is sold by a local European Vendor.
I am know stuck between the Huano Charp Jian and the Cutting Jian from Scott Rodell.
Both have a nice look and look historically accurate enough for a layperson like myself.
The Price point of both are also similar.
How about the practical aspect of both? Are both swords equally suitable for light cutting practise or is one better than the other?
It seems that the cutting jian was especially made for cutting so it should be prefered over the Huano offering or are both of similar Quality?
Does anybody here has handled both swords and can compare the cutting ability of these 2 jian?
Thanks for the help in Advance.

Except for having a two-handed jian of similar size and weight (which handles nicely like the only antique two-handed jian I've played with), I'd be tempted. My sword is uglier, but was much cheaper. The bottom one here: 1350g, PoB 6.5", pivot point a little back from the top, but still close to the tip.

I haven't handled the Huanuo, but the Cold Steel Gim is very similar (I think it might be a little more hilt heavy, since the pommel has some lead added to it to increase weight). I think the difference in cutting ability will come down to how good the edge one each individual sword is. Both have excellent balance and handling, and if sharp both will cut very well. Pick the one you think looks better, or with your preferred handle length.
