To be honest, I'm a little bit disgusted. Not by the picture or the blood, but the fact to take out such a tiny animal by that kind of pride to show how sharp your knive is. Give him a shot in the head with a bullet/BB or smash it with a big hammer or whatever is equal. But I really doubt, that this little fella did not suffer. The last form of execution for me is exactely this: To be cut in half... I'm not an exaggerated animal lover or weapon hater, but please don't post stuff like this!
I second that. The last guy i watched doing this with the little legless lizards we have around here caught a quick left-right combi with open hands. Of course, a mouse is vermin to most of you, i understand that. But please do not drag it out here in the open anymore. Please! Exceptions made for bowie knife wielding 80 somethings. heck, I don't know if I possess such skill. Can't understand why someone would be killing lizards, as I'm an animal lover and why kill without reason.

It's a pest creature. "Oh just shoot it it will be faster", yeah, or get away, or be wounded and have a lead or copper tumor in it. Maybe our man doesn't have a bb gun close to him. I don't own one and have killed pests with machetes, and as an aside perhaps it is illegal to discharge in his township or city. It is in mine. Far more humane as well than a trap which snaps onto it, or a poison which may well go onto kill animals which you didn't intend to die.
Good thing we sheltered people don't exist in a place where you can't afford to let pests become pets. Like geese. I hate those stupid, field and agriculture killing disease spreading vermin.
I applaud the skill of hand eye coordination shown by Gandy here.

Smash it with a hammer? Have you ever seen an animal be crushed to death or be killed by blunt impact? Or be shot and not die? A hell of a lot more painful and horrific than being chopped on half and no longer existing between 2 breaths.

Sometimes I wish we’d meet one day so you folks could show me your one-two combo or whatever – since you don't know argumentation. Don’t you ever think?

I think its fine to kill the pest animal. Not much different than a mousetrap, bb gun, those drowning traps or a cat in terms of humane methods.
I guess its a bit gory and it might be a good idea to put warning on the thread title.

I edited a note about content into the thread title.
pgandy , this is very much like when the cat comes to show off its latest catch while you're trying to eat - good job, sure, but also damned off-putting. And you're old enough to know better than a cat.
The rest of you, at least try to stay civil.

If the majority of modern humans had to kill their own food to eat meat, we would have quite a few vegetarians. Most people like to post about things while heading out later to eat some burgers and such.

Nevertheless i hate killing animals for "pleasure" or "sports"; this doesnt mean hunting for food, but killing rhinos or elephants, lions, setting up rooster or dog fights, let slip the terrier for the rats or the good old bullfight crap! Nw, besides reacting on some sales hreads perhaps, i will take a rest from participating in discussions in here. I have a quite demanding job with the whole corona crap not making it easier and being basically threatened/called out by another forumite does not belong to my usual nor prefered free time activities.

All this over a dead mouse pic? Imagine if someone posted pics of actual game being dressed? One time I shot a coyote with a .308 and it puked up blood and flopped around a bit, that wasnt even game, farmers pay bounties to get rid of the pests, I'm obviously an assassin.
If you ever go hunting with a gun or god forbid a bow then prepare yourselves people, the shrieks of a suffering animal are most likely going to be heard, sometimes you have put them down at close range to finish the job.

Thanks Jordan, you come closer to reality in your post than others. I no longer have a firearms and if I did I wouldn’t discharge in the house for such. A hammer? Normally where there is one mouse there are others so last night I put bits of cheese and peanut butter throughout the house and this morning they are still there but I’ll continue for a while longer. Maybe I caught the problem in time, I hope. The little fellow would not eat much but no telling what disease(s) he may carry, not to mention a potential flea problem, something my dog objects to. It could start to raise a family, which is very likely. And then there is his crap which alerted me in the first place. Not to mention is his urine trail. Mice and rats relieve them on the run which is along a wall. This is invisible but can be seen with UV light, something I learned when assigned to pest control years back. As for those hypocrites against killing animals they have obviously never visited a poultry or hog farm nor a meat packing plant to see where that burger or steak came from that they love so much.
As for me at 81 I’m still fast, enough. Admittedly not as fast as my younger days when I could snatch a fly out of the air, but can still kill one with my bare hands. So perhaps I was bragging as someone accused me of.
Maybe I’ve seen too many body parts over the years and have become desensitized. My apologies to those I offended.
Looks like I kicked up too much excitement with this thread. With that in mind and not to get on MOK’s bad side I’ll stop here.

Hitting a running mice is actually a difficult thing I agree. Being so capable at your age is admirable even. It's very difficult to have "peaceful solution" out of this situation too.

Like I said: good job, but it's just off-putting to have a bloody mouse carcass thrown at you unsolicited and without warning.

I’m going to go back on my word and show additional mischief these cute furry things do, to enlighten those that don’t know. Below is a pair of essentially new jeans that I packed away for safe keeping. I’ve had them destroy much more in the past, one complete wool uniform for one. It’s no telling what they will use when deciding to make a nest.
