Dojo owner Michael demonstrated cutting the hardest used Japanese tatami mats.
Cutting used Japanese tatami mats with various hardness with Neighborhood sword hira zukuri nodachi, Longship Armoury Nagamaki "Reborn", "Tengu" and "Deva Slayer". It was from the thinnest geometry to the thickest geormetry.
Student Alex cut with Sinosword custom nodachi that I sharpened with progressively increasing mat hardness. Then he borrowed Des's thai sword for a test.
More to come....

Nice cuts all around, you definitely demonstrated how it's done. I really need to get back into proper two handed swords, looked like a lot of fun (worth the fuss of cleaning).
Oh, and the mask is fantastic. I keep debating getting a closed helm to wear these days. Purely for humor. If I lived in Texas I would splurge on a full set of armor and walk around with a claymore strapped to my back. A rather convenient way of ensuring "social distancing"

I tested the mask on practicing swordsmanship and it provides enough airflow without getting in the way. It's a very good one. BTW, the neighborhood sword nodachi suffered minor edge damages like this:

Lots of nice, clean cuts there. Especially some of those with the minimal swing are quite impressive. Also, I really like that custom Thai sword! Unlike the Japanese style swords, it looks like the kind of thing where scratches only add character.

Luck could be a factor that the scratch on the nodachi reached the edge apex, twice.

Today's test cut on parallel rolls of used japanese tatami mats, and dotan kiri. I used my Neighborhood sword hira zukuri nodachi most of the time, but also borrowed a 17's dadao, hanbon hira zukuri katana and Longship armoury custom Silvia for use.
