I got a sword recently in the classifieds. I was very happy with it, except it felt a little blade heavy. I measured it and the POB was at about 6.5 inches. Which isn't too bad, but a little higher than I prefer. The sword had a Viscount pommel from LG Martial Arts, which I like the look of, but I wanted something a bit heavier. It seemed almost crazy timing, but I was able to get a pommel from (K.A.) in the classifieds that was just about perfect. This was my first time drilling out a pommel (the sword uses a hex nut) and filing it out for the tang to fit. I was so worried I was going to mess something up. But it came out really nice. It's on there straight and everything. Here are some before and after pics. Like I said, I think the Viscount is a nice looking pommel, but I think I prefer the wheel pommel. Just a simpler look that I like. Almost forgot, the new pommel dropped the POB from 6.5" down to 4.25". I like the feel much better now. Sword with original pommel: Sword with new pommel:

I'm surprised no one has commented, but nice job on that! I also have one of those pommels. Looks good on your AT and more importantly, I'm sure it makes the handling way better! joe_meadmaker

Thanks! I do like the handling much better now. The sword is noticeably heavier overall. Which isn't surprising because the new pommel is more than double the weight. But it's still only at 3 lb 1.6 oz, so not bad at all.

One could even argue it may be still on the lighter side. I am also in the "worried to mess things up"-camp. Your result came out great.
How is the grip feel? Grip spacing in particular. The Fishtail pommels usually enhance the usable grip length quite a bit. So I would assume the grip is a bit more closer now.

Tomt24 - Completely agree with your comment on the sword weight. I have no issues with it whatsoever. Space for the hands was lost with the switch. The length of the grip is just over 6.5 inches. So now the pinky finger does end up on the pommel. It's still quite comfortable though. And gripping the entire pommel is still an option to get some separation between the hands if needed. Also just to mention, the Viscount pommel did end up getting sold to a member on the forum here. So hopefully it will end up on another sword.

Nice looking sword there, Joe, and I prefer the new pommel, too. You mentioned K.A. as the source of the new, round pommel. Is that Kingston Arms, or something else? I'd be interested in getting a pommel like that. Thanks!

The source was Krieger Armory - A member on the forum with the display name (K.A.) <--parentheses included I'm not sure if he has any more, but you can definitely send him a message. He had them posted in the classified a little while back and I ended up buying what he had left. There were three of them, so I'd likely sell you one if he doesn't have anything available. I currently only have plans for one, but figured it would be good to have them around.

Thank you very much for the information, Joe! I'll have to look up Krieger, and see if he has some more pommels. Future project, so might not be right away, but good to know where to look. Thanks!

Do you still have the fishtail pommel and would like to sell it, maybe?

Do you still have the fishtail pommel and would like to sell it, maybe? Sorry. It was sold a few months ago. It looks like LG Martial Arts has some in stock though. That pommel was the Viscount.

Very nice job! I have to buy them the way I want them as I am totally incapable of the workmanship/craftsmanship you clearly are. Does the sword retain a hexnut assembly or is it now peened?

Thanks! It's still a hexnut. I'm going to be doing a similar job on another Atrim I have. After that I'm going to try my hand at making a new grip. I have a few swords I would like to re-grip.
