Our local supermarkets still have no TP...
The postdigested ones are, but that will require tp which is in short supply. If they ate tacos the day before (digested) and used the future digested tortillas as TP, than an inebriated fool could find himself munching on nothing but past and present toilet paper. What an ugly mental puzzle picture indeed.

If you don’t put anything but human waste( you all know what I’m saying) and toilet paper in it and the tank has good enzymes in it you should be ok. No bleach, kills enzymes. I’ve know some that hadn’t been pumped in a long time. The more humans you have the more strain on the system. Especially kids. If you’ve had them you know how much tp they can use when they’re young. The septic industry recommends using septic safe tp. It’s single ply. Not going there. 😏 Only human waste and tp goes into tank. No kids, I live alone except during the day when my amiga comes by daily. I like the 3 ply stuff but this is the first I've found for sometime, I'll watch it in the future. Twice in 20 years is probably fine then. My parents have an old style gravity septic system installed in 1977--one small tank, large diameter drain pipe with large perforations--they've never had an issue (although when 5 people lived there they pumped about every 4 years). I had a "modern" one installed in 2004 with two large tanks, filters, lift station, alarms, and multiple small diameter pipes in the drain field. Theoretically, it was supposed to be much more efficient. All that stuff broke or clogged at one time or another in during the 10 years I lived there. I finally got it working well, but it took some retrofits and required vigorous maintenance.

Indeed we have news of an increased rate of pipe blockages due to the TP crisis. TSHTF Thank's again for the hint! (6 TP rolls again after I could get additional 2 on Saturday).

I was very familiar with the older type system you parents have. The comparison I like to make: think of the old system as a biplane and the new systems as the space shuttle. Lots more to go wrong, but if they’re working correctly they are suppose to be more efficient by far.

Heh...I lucked out and found a stash of Kleenex in the bathroom cabinet. Maybe I won't have to go ripping old bed sheets after all. Use 'em one ply at a time---both sides.

I had completely forgotten, I’ve used those in a pinch when a kid. You guys have brought back many memories, not just with the tp thing but over time in with things, other threads, that I had forgotten. My thanks.

If worse came to worse I thought of the Roman style with a sponge and water. Count me out when it comes to Greeks using (broken?) ceramics. Sticks, stones and many other things were used by different cultures at different times. The medieval European castles had a pile of hay and a bucket of water handy. There was a documentary a few years back in which the promoters took three families to the boondocks and had them live duplicating living conditions on the frontier in the late 1800s for three months. It was an interesting program. No paper goods were present and the women objected to no toilet paper and makeshift pads. The biggest objection though came from the lack of makeup. That one really upset the women. The youngsters for the lack of telephones, but they did slip some in. The outhouse, actually any building apart from the main house could be and was an outhouse, but in this case the john was equipped with a water bucket and each person had their rag hanging on a peg. The water had to be hand carried by the kids from a creek some distance away and was a daily chore. They hated that job. I remember doing that but it was from a well not too distant and on an as needed basis which was several times a day.

In the same vein as pgandy's comment: thank goodness toilet paper became common i cant imagine using rocks I imagine after repeated uses of rocks, one's posterior orifice would become somewhat toughened... So I suppose you'd get conditioned to it, haha.

Problems with water systems are starting here in Germany by now... people start to use all kinds of old tshirts, humid tissues, hand kerchiefs, towels ec.

I can visualize that happening and see it as a major issue. They should do as here and bag that mess up and throw it out with the trash. Edit: After writing that nature called and while setting on the throne, a great place to meditate, a better solution came to mind. Instead of throwing the mess out with the trash, do as we did in the old days with cloth diapers, wash and reuse. However at the time the wife and I were modern and took advantage of a commercial diaper service that came by the house picked up a bag of used ones leaving clean ones in its place. Then came the plastic paper lined throw-a-ways. I hadn’t considered it but all of those sheets of non-biogradable plastic must be a problem in itself.
