As an aside, I think when this is over we will rethink how we treat the annual fly epidemic. It is a lot of unnecessary carnage. Mandatory shots will not go over well in the US, but legislation for testing/isolation/self-isolation will not go over well with the business community, either. And plan on airport screenings as the new normal. Also, on the numbers, I read another estimate of 60% illness X 7.7 B people X 1% death rate = 45 million dead. Fly paper. Sorry bebut, couldn’t resist. This thread needed a little levity.

We just had a 3.1 earthquake up here which is rare. Totally took the virus talk off the table. Peoples lives are so boring that they just need something to talk about and the bigger they can make it the longer it can go on. On that note I'm done with this virus thing enjoy your life of fear and hysteria. Anyone want to talk about some crazy subject like swords and history ?

No, not at all! I actually hadn't heard about (or maybe it just didn't register) the Lauttasaari quarantine, living half a country and conceptually half a world away from Helsinki, and the military exercise is one of the canceled events I was thinking about. The official travel advisories regarding Russia just say to "use ordinary caution", but of course there's always something squirrelly going on along the border... I mostly actively follow the national health institute updates. PS. Total of 59 infected as of today. The latest jump probably has to do with the Lauttasaari thing, I'd assume.

Anyone want to talk about some crazy subject like swords and history ? I traded all my swords for toilet paper. JK. I made my first scabbard last week for a Windlass CYOS--wood core made the old gaffer easy way. It's been hard finding a chape so I made one out of leather. "I traded all my swords for toilet paper."
Perhaps a little moderation is due here--in some areas you may need your swords to protect your toilet paper. Swords plus TP!
Not a panicker, a week or so ago I bought small supplies of TP. gel, canned food, alcohol, and last but not least a bottle of wine. I do this at the beginning of every hurricane season anyway. My wife is a panicker, now that the next country over (CR) has an outbreak and one of our larger supermarket chains has announced rationing, my wife ran all over town looking for stuff that is out of stock. What a waste of gas and time. The only thing I need to beef up is my supply of green backs, they are perhaps the best emergency ration.
Stay home, walk the dogs, work in the yard, play with sharp things...

I figured since my ancestors survived the Black Death, then I should honor their spirits and do the same for the corona virus. I'm not going to be the weak one that dies from some plague.

And plan on airport screenings as the new normal. I’ve seen the airport screening before. There was a cruise liner off the US west coast and 23 passengers wished to disembark. A screening took place and 2 tested positive. 11 crew members tested positive also. I’ve seen the airport screening before. There was a cruise liner off the US west coast and 23 passengers wished to disembark. A screening took place and 2 tested positive. 11 crew members tested positive also. We had our first case last week, Friday I think, by Monday 3 more. Schools are closed. I don’t know country wide or locally. Large gatherings have been cancelled by the government and are encouraging people to stay away from large groups not controlled by the government. Panama is doing similar. I use an alcohol gel on a daily bases and as I am at my restocking point I tried but can’t find any in my town or the adjacent which is the province’s capital. Ditto for alcohol. I keep a goodly supply off all on hand so I am not without. So now I see the panic. I have Lysol on hand for removing mould especially on leather. Will buy another and start wiping down objects in the house. I did with a cane earlier today and normally do this with a wood cleaner to remover the sweat and grit as it brings out the grain in the wood. I was surprised at the crude that was on it.

Former head of FDA states it to be 10x more deadly than common influenza... This 10x increase takes the mortality rate up from .1 or 1/10 of a percent (for standard flu) up to 1% for Wuhan. Average age of the deceased over 80.

Personally, I refuse the doom and gloom approach. It may seem I am incensitive to the subject or that I don't care (I am not, and I do), but I refuse to let this drive my life into fear and misery. What happens will happens, not like if we have much control over it anyway.

In today's society its easy to forget how little control we really have in the end.

Quite right! Levity. There is nothing I can do about a virus, nothing at all. If I get sick and die, then that is how I end my run on Earth. Someday I'll take a dirt nap, it's the inescapable result of being alive. So be it. Until that time, I'll live and not worry about how it will end. Whatever comes, comes. I refuse to live in fear for something that I can't escape from no matter what I do.
I have no fear of death. On the contrary, I have only fear of dying without experiencing life. Living in fear of dying is the only true death.
