I received this this morning via email and thought it maybe of some interest. I had posted it elsewhere.
From the best medical personnel in the U.S., the advise is that your chances of having Coronavirus is slim if you develop/continue healthy habits and understand the virus. And realize in comparison: "So far, 14,000 people have died, and 250,000 people have been hospitalized during the 2019-2020 flu season, according to preliminary estimates from the CDC" (02/14/2020)... So it is equally important to get your flu shot!
1. If you have a runny nose and sputum, you have a common cold.
2. Coronavirus pneumonia is a dry cough with no runny nose.
3. This new virus is not heat-resistant and will be killed by a temperature of just 26/27 degrees. It hates the Sun.
4. If someone sneezes with it, it takes about 10 seconds before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne.
5. If it drops on a metal surface it will live for at least 12 hours - so if you
come into contact with any metal surface - wash your hands as soon as you can with a bacterial soap.
6. On fabric it can survive for 6-12 hours. Normal laundry detergent will kill
it.
7. Drinking warm water is effective for all viruses. Try not to drink liquids
with ice.
8. Wash your hands frequently as the virus can only live on your hands for
5-10 minutes, but - a lot can happen during that time - you can rub your eyes, pick your nose unwittingly and so on.
9. You should also gargle as a prevention. A simple solution of salt in
warm water will suffice.
10. Can't emphasize enough - drink plenty of water!
THE SYMPTOMS
1. It will first infect the throat, so you'll have a sore throat lasting 3/4 days
2. The virus then blends into a nasal fluid that enters the trachea
and then the lungs, causing pneumonia. This takes about 5/6 days
further.
3. With the pneumonia comes high fever and difficulty in breathing.
4. The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You feel like
you're drowning. It's imperative you then seek immediate attention.

In Germany we have many positive tested persons who had no symptoms at all or just a mild cold. I had a cold 5 weeks ago and got pneumonia. Everything can happen and we're all going to die. Wash your hands, use your brain and better quit smoking! No ice in my whiskey and rum for the next days!

I drink my rum at room temperature. I’m not worried about the virus but many are. It seems like about every year there is a new strain of virus and the panic starts. I think much is the media playing it up to create sales. We had our first case last week and it was over on the west coast.

I heard that plenty of Corona kills the corona.
But seriously, it's out now. There is no stopping it. It's far too late for containment. I hate to be the realist, but it's just going to have to run it's course. Those that will get sick, will get sick, those that won't, won't. There is nothing can be done about it now. And I'm not convinced with any of the numbers being thrown about- I can't determine what is corona, and what is normal everyday flu. Corona can only be identified with a specific test, but many get sick, don't go to the doctor, and then get better, but are those numbers being counted also, or just the confirmed test? If so, there may be thousands more infected, but recover just fine and nobody is the wiser. Maybe, at the end of it all, it's no worse than a normal flu.
Just live healthy and leave it to fate. I'm not putting my life on hold over something I can't do anything about.

Yah, good luck with that. We live in a global village now. What used to work in the old days of quarantining a town that was plague ravaged simply won't work today. Too many people moving around the globe on a daily basis for commerce alone to even think about shutting anything down.

In my opinion as long as communist China can not be trusted to be honest and transparent in these matters and it continues to allow the wet markets to remain open, there should be severe restrictions on the ability of the Chinese to move freely around the rest of the globe. The next one may kill us all...

You're fresh back from a temporary suspension for this very thing. If I see one more post from you about "Chinese nationals" - the very people who are right now bearing the brunt of this latest pandemic - being an evil, cruel, barbaric threat that needs to be pushed back from our shores, you will take a month off on the spot.

Google Taiwan and Corona virus. They know what to expect from China and jumped on it right away and have very few casualties. Each bug has it's differences but generally the protection is the same--airport screenings, wash hands, avoid crowds and sick people until it blows over.
What scares me right now is the body count out of Italy. A relatively modern affluent country should be handling this better.

Human body runs at around 37 degrees celsius normal operating temperature. Temps used in OP are in celsius,as this originated in Australia. Think about that.

GEEZ, I just got off of Facebook needing a break from all this BS and here it is. The flu kills more people every year then this virus has. Like the flu most of the people who die of this are elderly people already in bad health. Lung cancer alone kills about 150,000 a year but people go right on smoking. About 80,000 people died from the flu last season and no one is going into panic mode over that. So far 2,811 people have died of the coronavirus and most of them are in China. No Chicken Little the sky is not falling, SO GET OVER IT.

There is no reason not to take any infectious disease seriously and no harm in taking precautions.

There is no reason not to take any infectious disease seriously and no harm in taking precautions. Well you waste your time worrying about it I have better things to do with my time. All you have to do is the same things you do to avoid a cold or the flu like wash your hand and don't touch your eyes, nose and mouth until you do. Keep your immune system strong and avoid being in large crowds in big cities. Like I said no problem for me.

In my medical scale of things Covid19 rates just below the cheap plastic chairs that are the norm here. I do worry about the grandkids in skool and one elderly relative. And about a friend who was about to go on a global 30 day cruise.

Yeah there is a lot of common sense in what you just said, which is what health officials are pushing. I'm just not sure that being dismissive of Covid is a helpful attitude. Maybe you're perfectly set up and that's great for you, but it will hurt other people. I get that all the news is trying to wind people up and I think the EotW stockpiling is silly but it probably wouldn't hurt you to have some compassion.

The lockdowns are a real potential, and millions have already been under them or are now under them. Having enough food and supplies to last a few weeks is important in any case. Hopefully we never get to the point when we have many millions of senior citizens dying early from this stuff. But it's a possibility we're trying to avoid.
