That's the exact combination of spear head and butt cap I have, and they make for a great handling weapon. I actually thought...for a minute or so...about mounting two of the spear heads on a 24'' piece of handle I had left over. It would be...different...that's for sure. <======------======>

A spear is still on my list of things to make. Perhaps sometime soon if I'm lucky

This thread motivated me to finish my "blackout viking spear" project, and I got it all put together this morning. The spearhead is a marvelously ratty-looking $20 "viking lozenge spear" from Ebay, whittled down to fit a 60" long, 1 1/8" diameter utility handle from Home Depot. I sanded off the original brown finish from the shaft and used Varathane "classic black" oil stain. Finally, I spent yesterday afternoon hot-dyeing a few different varieties of rope with black RIT dye on my grill (wife forbid me to use the kitchen stove, lol). This is jute shown here. Head is attached with two phillips screws positioned one above the other, Cold Steel-style. Contrary to the Ebay description, this did NOT come pre-drilled with any mounting holes, which after much cussing and a broken cobalt bit turned out better anyway (I really need a drill press). At least I know it's well hardened! Screws are counter-sunk. It arrived dull but adequately pointy, so I put 30 degree edges on it with the belt grinder. Wiped the head, the screws, and even the belt-shined edge with Brownell's 44/40 instant gun blue. I used only one coat of Varathane because the grain came through nicely. I stained another identical shaft but the grain didn't look quite as nice, so I added a second coat and it came out REALLY black. On the right is the two-coat black shaft with a Windlass Viking Spear head resting loosely on top (my next project). These two would look better with the shafts switched, but the dang single-coat pole was already custom fit for the black head. Now to find a raven feather in the woods when I walk the dog, and it will be truly complete.

Looks good. Maybe trim the cord back a little?

Looks good. Maybe trim the cord back a little? I wrapped it to exactly match the width of my hand. Or do you mean the dangly bits? Those are for the magic raven feathers, once Odin sends me some ♠️

When I first got interested in spears was the during the period of my interest in oriental weapons and I put tassels on mine, mostly as an excuse to hid the head/haft join. They all came off save one after an encounter in my back garden and a tassel hung up on my razor wire putting the spear out of action. The tassels were OK in the open going through a drill. The only one left is to hide a very much miss matched haft to spear head. The fit is solid but not eye pleasing.

When wrapping in cord...and you have those little 'fuzzies' sticking out...just spray on some Ms.Clairol hairspray and flick a Bic on 'em. This will take away the 'fuzzies' and make pgandy happy. ..... Then you can seal it with candle wax. I like 'pumpkin spice' for Fall. That looks really great , man! Gives me ideas........

It's part of the rough-and-tumble esthétique 😎 I mean, LOOK at the finish on that metal. The carpet's gotta match the drapes!
