I enjoyed the first series quite a bit. The books are solid, ans the series is done. Give it a try.

Is this the series that used a p1796 heavy cavalry sword? I'm not at all familiar with the story aside from the sword mention.

I have the box with all the movies. Some are better, some not, overall I like it (but hey, in the meantime I like TFA too) . The author of the Sharpe novels Bernard Cornwell also wrote the Uhtred/The Last Kingdom books. Sean Bean doesn't die in 15 movies in a line, incredible. Yes, 1796 HC sword. Story: Sharpe & Wellington defeat Napoleon.

It's a bit dated, but once your brain gets used to that era of television again it rolls right along nicely.

There are some clips from Sharpe on YouTube. Check there to get an idea.

Yes , you'll enjoy it ! Sean Bean at his best. I saw it about 20 years ago and my wife bought me the boxed set a few years ago.

Sharpe was a fictional hero. Here’s the true story for those interested.

I've had it for many years, the best episode is the second episode, no other episodes live up to it. But there are a few others that are ok. It feels low budgets, but they are great "adventures" Expect lots of cliches, and over the top heroics.
The Hornblower series is better, more believable characters, better drama and some believable tactics involved.

Watched the first two episodes by now... quite OK. Hornblower box? I only know the old Gregory Peck movie - and i DIG it! Great naval battle, nice model building, nice matte painting , and Christopher Lee as a VERY TANNED spanish captain!
