Well as you may notice I seldom use a katana. This time my friend who runs "Neighborhood swords" gifted me an affordable model to test with. I spent 4 hours to sharpen it to as close to my preference as the geometry allowed, then tested on a forearm roll and an upper arm roll. The forearm roll posed no challenge while the upper arm roll had to be dealt with with full power. The sword is good in heat treat, hitting 55 to 60 HRC uniformly through the blade. Not the common "soft body" syndrome that infest Lung Chuan swords.

Some mainland sword friends thought cutting empty bottle test the skill more than our usual realistic target. I'm trying to show how easy it is to cut empty bottle with my sharpness, done with short cut at waist height. This same cut would not cut through our forearm difficulty target, thus showing the relative easiness in cutting empty bottles.
Some styles think cutting paper tube is a good test for skill. I'm demonstrating that it does not compare to our usual simulator targets.

Lightweight swords on thick PPR cored targets. The katana and an atrim lightweight hand and a half.

Thanks a lot. I thought no one watches LOL. The atrim in action was AT1518. Both swords in the video were around 2 lbs 2 oz (atrim) to 2 lbs 4 oz (katana). I was surprised that even the single hand on pommel strike with the katana cut through the target.

People should realize this is some serious cutting.

I watch every cutting video you post. I just don't comment on them. Very nice cutting. I will say that even the "bad" cuts would seriously cripple or kill an actual human opponent. You don't always have to get a perfect cut to end a fight...

People should realize this is some serious cutting. Thanks a lot. Indeed, I don't do trick cuts and I choose targets that simulate human difficulty. That is 4.2mm wall thickness and 2.5cm diameter PPR pipe inside the roll as bone. Sometimes I add clothing and plastic bag as skin as well. :D

Yep, especially the cuts in the first video (3:55 - from there on) look and sound realy nice, dude! Yeah thanks a lot. Have to cut with full power with this sword on such targets. This katana has a normal geometry, with those standard lung chuan width and thickness, thus not the easiest cutting sword out there. hahah.
