To be frank PG, I wouldn't know what to do with myself without my workshop. Even in my atelier I always had a bench for the ,,other'' stuff. Apart from the swords, do you have any special interests, like restoring furniture or clocks or something? I came late to the steel world. Been a wood boy for most of my days. Wood is forgiving. Plenty of room to smuggle a bit here or there. I was afraid of steel. No wiggle room here. Unforgiving. One mistake and down you go. And now I work with steel a bit, on a very low level and never felt better. Funny this life thing. How about you? Now I come to think of it, there must have been quite a few instances of you thinking I do things wrong or could do stuff much easier in another way. Anyway, I hope the stuff I do is entertaining enough for you. The part where you could be contemplating hitting me in the head with a table leg, well, that's part of the fun too I guess.
Edit: If my questions are too painful and/or too personal to go into, just disregard my post. After all, this is a public forum. We should be careful not to dox ourselves.

I don’t really know what I do as strange as that sounds. The time goes and I’m content and can’t for the life of me figure out how I ever found time to work. I had thought about building another workshop but then I realize virtually everything will have to be imported and the potential expense takes the fun out of it. I would like to have a vice to better hold what I’m working on. The best that I can come up with is the dining room table, a board, and a few clamps, a mini vice, and during times when I don’t interfere with Hazel. Most of what I do is free hand, I’ve never had many power tools and with a few exemptions prefer not to use power tools. Here’s a video to a challenge when I was into blowpipes when I needed a solution to pest control. The challenge was to make one and restricting me to all natural materials except a saw, knife, cord, and a fire maker (no match). The pipe had to be 4’ minimum, and shoot a dart through a filled drink can at 8 paces, and I had to show the liquid coming out of both holes. I thought that a piece of cake.

He, this is fun! Has f-all to do with sabres for a change, so it is refreshing. I want to look at the other videos. It is amazing what can be done with simple tools, the many ways a machete can be used are a prime example. I bought one with a well made leather scabbard at the local farmers market when I was in Mexico and it served me for over 25 years. It may have lasted for another 25 years, but as someone expressed the desire to buy it, I sold it so I had my money back plus bonus too. That said, I love my shop and I am grateful not to have to crawl on the floor anymore. If the dining room table is stable enough there is no direct need for a bench but one: You have to remove the project at dinner time. The Hazels of this world do not and I dear say, never will, understand the importance of being able to contemplate the project and study it while it sits there behind the soup terrine. One needs instand access to be able to wake up in the middle of the night because problems solved and action has to be taken right there and then. So my brother had the engine of his Moto Guzzi parked right in front of the couch so entertaining guests, watching TV and contemplation could be done all in one go. Of course he had dinner there too. PG, I have to go to work now. See you later.
