Pointed out a few posts ago, Tink marks the blades he makes, never on the fittings. This round began with my doubt that the fittings were forged by Tinker, which is how you described them.
That there are no Tinker marks on the Hanwei sword is of little mystery to me but seems baffling to some. Indeed no Hanwei mark on them either but that could be said of Sonny and the Angus Trim designs. Although, Gus has never marked his swords. If one follows Tink at SFI, all the old correspondence with Blake Pogue and the development phase shows his remarks. Just hit his profile page (linked) and read the threads he created. Or not.

Mr. Pearce got back to me via email and sent me pictures of the sword as he shipped it out. These are indeed fittings he made, and considering the assertion regarding them not being shipped out in the condition I originally posted was wrong, it's certainly possible looking at the pattern and finish of the fittings that they could have been forged, though Mr. Pearce may typically just use stock removal. Either way, they are custom made fittings that can be used on his HT bastard line. @edelweiss I hope this has helped give you a wider angle view of things. ;] Attachments:

I believe if you go back to my first reply, I mention Tink does not forge fittings. We went on from there but you have still not shown your initial post to be correct. You wrote to Pearce and he sent images but you then mention the possibility they were forged? Even forged fittings are then cleaned up, which to me means they were distressed. If Pearce did that, it is a first I have seen from him in viewing his work over twenty years.
Thanks for taking the time.

Incorrect. You first replied with skepticism about me having a Hanwei sword with Tinker fittings, which was based off of the narrower view of his work you (hopefully previously) had. You have a Hanwei sword with Tinker fittings? I find that hard to believe This was incorrect, as confirmed by Pearce. Then you said he doesnt forge anything. Then you said "He would not have ever sold those fittings in that condition." and then proceeded to post pictures of his work in order to show the contrast. However, he did sell those fittings in that condition. Again, wrong about his work. You then said you were only interested in what he had to say about it, so I emailed him and he confirmed that he made them, and that they were sent out on a sword in the condition you said he would never have sent them out in. Now you are saying even a forged work would be cleaned up. That's fine, and these may not even be forged, but considering the record so far regarding statements you've made about Tinkers work, I dont think I can take your assuredness as proof positive that these were produced in the way you describe. Could be. You haven't really given me reason to believe you know that though. You know he has a torch, but these fittings were probably not just blackened, given the scaled appearance, and I find it easier to believe you may just be mistaken now. However, I could have just been using incorrect and imprecise language when I said they were forged. Everything else checked out though, contrary to your misgivings and statements. ;] Thanks again. You always make things fun Edelweiss.

My reply was that I found it hard to believe. and in my last post I write. "If Pearce did that, it is a first I have seen from him in viewing his work over twenty years." I'm glad you are having fun but continue to speculate the fittings might have been forged. Speculating still, after having been in touch with him. I can only speculate that you still don't know when you write "However, I could have just been using incorrect and imprecise language when I said they were forged." Hey, that's all you needed to share but it is only more curious that you don't just know one way or the other. Don't take my word for anything. After all, you were in touch with the producer, who likely can share one way or the other. I'm even happier you have taken some time to look at the actual provenance but it is a shame you still don't have all the answers. That remains your cross to bear. An analogy might be that a folder I own with engraved bolsters was explained without doubt that the maker never delivered it to that customer with the engraving. With your sword, you bought it and built a story based on a couple of posts without asking the authors of the end result. Nothing inherently wrong with that but you could have skipped writing a new chapter based on speculation.

My speculation from a few posts was more accurate than 20 years of experience, what luck! This cross probably doesn't qualify as a cross though. I'll never have all the answers like our resident Weiss-One, and it's a much easier burden to bear than it used to be.

There are other Hanwei swords that never showed the horse mark. Indeed, that used to be seen on the knives and not on any of the katana, the viking swords, William Marshalls, on and on.

Well I for one am in the camp of the H/T patterns just being so recognizable and pretty famous amongst even novice collectors, that they really don't need a mark. Being a budget line it also may have some foot in the cost saving bucket as well. Not having really looked into the hanwei swords though, I could sure be wrong.
