Hello everyone
I apologize for ducking out of the conversation for a few months. I had some work show up unexpectedly and it has been all hands on deck ever since.
Thanks for all the additional information, everyone. Especially Uhlan for clarifying the 1845/1855 superior-inferior-Zouave-posterior-Officer d'Afrique variants (or whatever they're called...)
During my absence a bunch of these non-standard French Inf. swords popped up on eBay during a brief 4 - 6 week period. I didn't buy any of them, but I made some effort to catalog them as they went by. It's weird, how the sword market works. One month you may see 5 swords of a particular pattern go by, and then never see another one for years (during which you may or may not be kicking yourself for not getting one when you had the chance)
NB images and relevant copyrights belong to the sellers and/or eBay. Sword listing number 3 is still active.
1: 1896 Cavalry blade on 1882 hilt
Stats (from seller): 95cm blade. Stamped "Modèle 1892 1ère taille Manufacture Nationale d'armes de Châtellerault .août 1916"
Author comments: This thing is the closest analogy to my insanity, but this time has a "proper" cavalry blade.
2: 1882 Infantry with multi-fullered 'Toledo' blade and canvas-wrapped scabbard
Stats (from seller): No stats given
Author comments: Note the fabric covered field scabbard. Sorry monsieur, the British did it better...
3. MOUNTED TROOPS SWORD (according to seller)
Stats (from seller): 37.5in blade, stamped on spine "Manufacturer d'Armes de Chatellerault"
Author Comments: Appears to be 1854HC blade mounted onto an 1882 hilt. Seller claims it is a "mounted trooper's sword". I have no knowledge of such a pattern, nor can I find a reference so I cannot comment.

There are also a couple standard 1882 blades mounted on 1845/1955 hilts floating around eBay too, but I can't seem to find those listings anymore.
There also seems to be an increase in the number of listings for, shall we say, 'not-pristine' swords coming out of France lately...not entirely convinced about the quality of those ones, but the prices tend to reflect this.
