Good Morrow fellow bladed bretheren!
I've had a T.P longsword on my "to buy" list for at least 2-3 years, but everytime I found a seller their page would slap me with the 3 words I've come to detest: "out of stock" I happened to stumble upon someone selling a "naked" T.P. Longsword blade (flawless and a bare fraction of the price an already assembled sword costs) and snatched it up quicker than I could think the words.....Project Sword. So I've been in possession of this great blade for some time now, looking and waiting for the perfect outfit to dress it in. After speaking with the extremely helpful, fellow forum member LG I found a wonderful pommel and crosspiece for my first "Euro" project sword. My only issue now is finding the "perfect" hilt to complete my project, and hence the reason for this post (I know, FINALLY right?). Can anyone recommend a place I might find either a bare hilt, that could be wrapped or altered to fit my project sword, or an already assembled version? I've been waiting to dress this fine fellow for so long that either type of hilt is fine. Thanks for any and all help!

By hilt, do you mean grip? If so, Steve Huerta Huer-Ta has a great reputation for making and wrapping grips, and for good reason.

Sonny does good grips too. And his prices are also good.

If you're just talking about the grip core, ramses1079 - I think Mike Jia does 3d printed bare grips. If you wanted to do your own grip, this wouldn't be a bad way to go. I've heard some good things about these. |Printed Armoury Grips|If you want an already-finished grip... as said above - Steven Huerta does a great job, as does Sonny. Some of the best I've seen or handled in the business. Either of them would probably do a scabbard for you as well if you didn't want to try to make your own.

You mean an original tinker sword or the Hanwei version?

You mean an original tinker sword or the Hanwei version? I assume the Hanwei/Tinker Pearce version, since he's talking 'out of stock' and bare blades. But, admittedly, that's an assumption.

I hope I can answer all these awesome replies at once......I got one shot to answer while my little princess is otherwise occupied.
LG--I feel horrible asking this like I did but I already asked you about the pommel and crossguard, and I didn't want to be a burden asking about the hilt after you already helped me big time! Thanks though...Steve Huerta, got it!
Verity-- Sonny (Is he a forumite?) If I Google "Sonny" I'm gonna end up with 10 million results for the Godfather LOL It's okay I'm half Italian so it's not racist when I say it! j/k Thank you for the response!
Feldarin-- My "project sword" is kind of time reliant right now. My townhouse has neither a garage or basement to do repairs/customizing. Being a "hands-on" guy it's one of my greatest regrets. I wish I had a better answer for you, but both options (Mike Jia, Printed Armoury Grips) you gave are great, thanks!
Robert-- If you mean what I'm attempting to build, then I'm going for my own version of a longsword....just using the awesome blade of Mr. Pearce. I hope that answers your question. I just wanted a different interpretation of a European longsword.....same blade of course.
Thanks for for the responses guys! I was a little iffy coming on board the forum cause I had heard there's a lot of drama on them, but you fellows have been welcoming and encouraging.

Sonny Suttles (Valiant Armory) does custom work. This is the one he mentioned. I don't know if he checks this forum, but there is a 'contact' link at Valiant - Custom Sword Shoppe his leatherwork is great. I can definitely vouch for him and Huerta's work. Can't decide which I like more for grips and wraps. (Admittedly Steve will probably be faster, if time is a concern.) As for drama... I only showed up here recently myself. I think I missed most of it. 0_0 If there was any in the first place. But I don't think you can have a forum anywhere without someone saying there's 'drama'.

Yes. Sonny Suttles from Valiant Armoury is whom I was referring to.
Yes there is a bit of drama but it is a minor percentage. Most folk and threads are welcoming, informative and a pleasure.
And the forum is by far less dramatic than many Facebook groups I have seen.

I seem to expect drama at any place where there's a gathering of fellows who have romantically become involved with weapons of gone-by ages and their usage in a world that frowns upon our vision of an antique practice...
But frankly, other than the usual 'you can't/can end him rightly' or 'this is good/this is bad' or 'this is the better interpretation/yours is a sodden work' debates, there tends to be lesser drama here.

Well everyone knows ending him rightly is the BESTEST technique ever! Every other technique is less awesome

BTW, I would recommend trying your own hand at a hilt too. I learned to do tsuba's and it's actually fun.

Thanks Fel, I actually am very familiar with V.A......I've spent many a night drooling over their awesome swords, scabbards, and you guessed it...hilts. I appreciate the name drop, by the way, I usuallly familiarize myself with smiths, forges, and independent artists (of which there is a welcome number in this weapons community (much to my delight)!! Yeah I know drama is almost everywhere you go nowadays, but I'm exceedingly grateful that there's "little-to-none" here amongst the bladed brethren. Do you/have you got any sword projects going in?

Thanks for the heads up Verity, I'm actually pretty familiar with V.A's work....just never had any employees names to go by. It's ironic you mentioned Facebook and drama in the same context, I was pretty active on F.B during its inception and MySpace's (how's that for a blast from the past?) decline, but having 300 friends, who I actually knew, was enough drama for me. Now it's strictly for business and contacts that I have in the law enforcement world. The difference between "here & there" is that we all share one unifying passion that glues us together, better than any other topic (or community) you can find online..... swords! I love weapons of all kinds, even firearms, but collecting swords can even bring people on the other side of the globe together.

Hello Asad, I agree that you can find drama almost everywhere, but you have to agree that there's a certain irony that people who share a passion for weapons are most often "more" peaceable than those who disagree with our shared love of sharp, shiny things! Now that's not a fact that you'll find in any sort of record book, or book on Sociology, but it's something I've shared with even firearms groups I've been a part of over the years. Oh no, not you too with the "end him rightly" thing LOL I've known a guy that has a YouTube channel for quite a few years (actually since he started out on YouTube) whose viewers are OBSESSED with that phrase!! I gave him crap for starting that "craze" bug I don't want to assume that's where you got it from. I do know that "end him rightly" is found in some very old treatises and "ancient" sword/fighting manuals.

Steven's my name, and I'm the most wanted man on my island.....except I'm not on my island. I've been dying to use that introduction for quite a while, so thank you for that!!! 😎

They feel as good as they look, believe me. Sonny is a really nice guy. Shoot him a polite email about custom work, and I'm certain he'll get back to you. He's in work up to his eyeballs always though, so it might be a while if you send it to him to get it done. (It's completely worth the wait though. Completely.) Ahh, I'm not much of a maker, almost none at all, in fact. I'm planning on getting into HEMA - and the most constructive thing I may do is a little sharpening. (Strange to call sharpening 'constructive' considering what you're doing.) I'm still a novice at putting a good edge on a blade though. I did get a custom project back a while ago that I had the aforementioned Steven Huerta work on... and soon - as soon as I can part with it, I may be sending out one of my two pieces that are the prizes of my collection to get a dress (scabbard) made. You won't be disappointed with the Hanwei/Tinker Pearce longsword once you're done. I got one myself that was semi-custom for my birthday, and it both looks and handles beautifully... it just needs a better edge to cut anything more durable than a water bottle.
