As the title says. Looking for a good school. Try E-budo.com - you have to join the forum, but then have access to all of the site, including info on dojos all over. Once you log in, scroll down to Sword Arts > Sword Arts Dojo Finder You can then go to the right side of the page and click on Search Forum or you can post a new thread asking for help finding a dojo in your area. Good luck!

As the title says. Looking for a good school. Not a lot in Australia for koryu from the australians i have spoke to, if that is what you meant. There is toyama ryu available, which is better than nothing. There should be some decent kendo, and some iaido maybe.

Great spot, the budowa one, if the seneii is 7th dan znkr he should be an excellent person to train under. 7th dan znkr is as high as an iaidoka can normally get, even with a lifetime of effort. and he should also know the koryu to an extremely high level too. The budokan one checks out too. Decent choices.

thanks man, I will make enquirers after the weekend! You guys have been really helpful, I appreciate it. Hey no probs, the shinseikanwa one is sort of giving me the heebie jeebies, but may be worth checking out. The other two look to be really top draw, you're lucky if they're close to you on such a large continent.

What are you looking for in terms of swordsmanship? Iai, Kendo and Kenjutsu are all vastly different. I would check all 3 out and see which appeals to you the most.

I want to learn whatever is more combat orientated as opposed to sporting.
I dont know very much, perhaps nothing haha, but from what I can gather kendo is more sporty then the rest?
I am told kenjutsu/iaijutsu, are that battle field techniques?
Again, forgive me If I sound stupid.

"We train in Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto ryu which covers a number of disciplines, from using bokken, bo, naginata, ryo-to and kotachi. There is also an iaijutsu component. Much of our practice is based on fighting against armour-wearing opponents.
Perhaps the best thing would be for you to come and watch a training session. "
Thoughts?

I am told kenjutsu/iaijutsu, are that battle field techniques? Again, forgive me If I sound stupid. None are battlefield orientated, the sword was hardly used on the battlefield. Kenjutsu, whilst just translating as "sword art" has come to mean the old ways of dueling. Iai jutsu, is the old ways of, essentially, assassination, or striking pre-emptively. From the scabbard. Iaijutsu and znkr iaido are, more or less, the same if you're being taught under a znkr 5-7th dan. Kenjutsu, in muso lineage, is not as good as it could be, they would normally reach out to msr jodo, or, if youre lucky, niten ichi ryu kenjutsu.
