Thanks. I will get the model 1831 gladius style short sword soon. This will make my sub-collection of briquet swords more complete. I like the compact size of these swords. The single edged briquet short sabre reminds me of those Chinese butterfly swords. I've always wanted a Briquet. I never knew the French had the Gladius swords past the 1831, that's very interesting to me. Newest addi(c)tion: French model 1831 glaive short sword.Aka 'Cabbage cutter' because they were also used as machetes and as utility knive. Saw much use with the French legionnaires in Northern Africa. This example is dated 1833, manufactured by 'Pihet freres' in Chatellerault. This thing feels massive and heavy, but not clunky,it has a nice balance. It's in great condition with all its markings and numbers. Even the scabbard stamp is still there. There were basically 3 types: -M1816 with scrubbed handle and fullers on the blade. -M1831, (see above pics) -M1855 same as M1831, but with a slimmer and bit shorter blade. (see my former post) Now I only need to hunt for the M1816

Thank you. Never thought I'd buy a sword without knowing that is a nihonto.

Would love any more pictures or info on the middle sword from the set of 3 nihonto swords you have. That is wonderful! Thank you. It's a mumei blade from mid 18th century. Blade lenght is 69,5 cm (including habaki). It has a nanbantetsu tsuba. Hamon is gunome. Here are some additional pics; Still need to find a way to make better and more detailed photos.

I like the 1796 LC so automatically, its 'descendants' also attract me. This Prussian M1873 feels massive and stiff. Mine is nickel plated. The 1796 LC and its German brother:
