Yeah it seriously looks nice. Xenomorph, ppl lately tend to "force" explanations of everythings, but really, i do know what lamination is ;D
From what Larry said it seems to be a line of fake hamon tho. Maybe one last question about it. The line seems like something "surface only" or looks like it's going "inward" into the blade?

Thanks for all the compliments While I admit it's never a superb, high-end replica, it certainly worth it's price tag and some mentioning here - even as a wall-hanger My original intent of buying this Shin-gunto was to have some sort of DiY restoration hands-on and not cutting, so it does not quite bothers me the quality of the blade. Bythesword, w.r.t. the line on the blade which your keen eyes picked up, I do not know what is it; It does not appear to be the etched hada like the rest of the blade but just very fine & only visible at certain angle of the light. If it is a case of laminated blade - or Sanmai, as some refers to, then it's a bonus for me.. considering the small price tag I paid for it ;D

Hello all, I've finally got the chance to disassemble the recent WWII Japanese Officer's Shin-gunto I bought, & here are some pix to share WWII Japanese Officer's Shin-gunto disassembled: Close-up of the seppa, tsuba, habaki & etc: That is one pretty looking Shin-gunto Larry .

Did some rework on the original piece and here's what it looks like now... Sword beside scabbard... Sword inside scabbard... Close-up of Ashi and Ishuzuke area... Works include: 1. Re-spray scabbard Brown 2. Relocate Ashi slightly 'north' towards Koiguchi 3. Relocate Semegane slightly 'south' towards Ishizuke 4. Apply several coats of wood varnish over the entire scabbard assembly, tsuba, menuki, sarute and kabuto-gane to achieve gloss and protect the brass fittings. Thanks for looking

Spud, Thanks for the sharing; had seen that some time ago, but hesitated going for it because I find it to be lacking in certain historical authenticity factor

i like it and wouldnt be upset about the price.replicas can be just fine as cutters, plus you dont have to feel bad about using them.
