My Dragoon/Cuirassier with an 1812 blade has a POB of 6.29". Thickness at guard: 9.2 mm- Half way: 6.2 mm- Start of false edge 3.2 mm. Any thoughts?

mmmmmmm...doesn't sound good. You're a mm short at the ricasso. A bit heavy in the middle. The point is hard to measure and is thick due to the centre ridge. PoB isn't very encouraging either. Pictures of the makers mark on the back of the blade and the grip? (Before your head explodes)

Oh, my head exploded some time ago. Right when I unpacked it. Somehow it did not feel right. Compaired to the 1816 blade it is way off. Someone took the Dremel to it, so a mm is gone like that, but me being not sure is indication enough I will have to get rid of it. The 1816 is a pleasure to hold, you hardly feel it. The 1812 not so much. The wrist gets the full load. It hurts. One enters a period of rationalising, what if this, or what if that, sometimes I feel good about it, sometimes I think, Naaah. So, it is going to the scrapper. What kept me going is the fact that it is closer to the real deal than Guinhut's Dragoon, also not a repro like the Universal. If it is a fake, it has another source. When in doubt, get rid of it, or else it will haunt you for the rest of your days. To stay with Empire, there is a Chasseur on there: en.empirecostume.com/chasseur-a-cheval-sabre-for-officer-1st-empire-restoration-c294-a5509.htm I mailed Mr. Guinhut about it. I thought it looked like the scabbard was way longer than the blade. Yup, the blade is shortened by about 4 - 6 cm, so Guinhut says. That is why it is so cheap. He should have stated so in the annonce. Also there is a new replica: en.empirecostume.com/grenadier-imperial-guard-infantry-officer-sabre-empire-c76-a7535.htmLooks very nice and the first batch is small. I will not go after it. Have one too many replica's as it is, or isn't it?. Yoh, Mr. Scrapper Man!

Uhlan and I have talked privately from several shots he sent. The appearance, and stats of the sword seem a bit off. The 16 turn grip wire is not standards but a recognized minor style. The poincons on the blade are in bad shape but the L is correct, the wreath ostensably around the B is correct. The pint and what was referred to as the looks of a cornet appears to be the signature stamp of Ltc Korly, which is again the correct stamp for late 1812. It may not be the perfect example of a french dragoon pallasch, but is probably a real Klingenthal.
