Thanks, Bear. I'm sure you're right about the costs. From what I've learned the weld shouldn't be a problem, just a personal preference of mine. For that matter I'd like it peened. There I go picking at things. I can be a bit obsessive.

RE: the pommel nut. I like to use a lot of red loctite on my hilts. My swords get used a LOT and without loctite threaded pommels will invariably loosen. I used a gunsmith flathead bit that I ground to exactly fit the slot. But when I put pressure on the driver, the slot shoulders twisted completely off. IMO an Allen keyed or Torx head nut is a must on this design.
RE: the welded tang extension. It's my understanding that the forge also makes swords for another company that uses this arrangement. They just assumed that's how Sonny wanted it. Same-same with the flattened diamond cross section at the tip. They were wrong on both accounts. I hope these little nuisances will all be corrected soon.

I used a gunsmith flathead bit Somehow, after I posted, I knew you were gonna say that. ;D I hope you're right about the tang weld and nut being changed.

Yeah really, what are the chances that shootermike wouldn't have a set of gun screwdriver heads . Good advice for others still however.

Gus sent me his personal 304S to try out. It's one he ground back into the original spec. It was one of the way-heavier-than-spec swords that were sent to him for regrind. I have to say that it's WAAAAYYY different than the one in this review as far as handling goes. It is much lighter in the tip and stiffer, so it doesn't flex nearly as much near the guard, compared to mine. If you get a chance to buy one of the "Enhanced ATrim Practicals", my suggestion is to JUMP ON IT ASAP! The ones the rest of you got are probably closer to Gus' sword than mine. LUCKY DOGS! Looks like I need to ask Sonny to find the heaviest one in the batch and send it to Gus. That will turn out to be a beautiful beast!

I love the look of steel and black leather on concrete with the natural accents (leaves). It's refreshingly minimal and doesn't detract from the austere beauty of this blade.
I really appreciate the effort to convey the amount of distal taper and why DT is desirable. (I hadn't really considered this before.) In fact I found the section on this topic quite informative and something to file for future reference.

great review. just picked up the shorter arming sword from the same line, the sharp version at £125. Should have it within the week, surprisingly i found a uk stockist who had a few.

Nice review, I actually hadn't read it before I bough mine, but have seen that video on youtube?
Has anyone put the arming sword to the test yet?
