www.swordsofhonor.com/roswwisc.htmlIt does not say who makes it...just that it is made in India of Carbon Steel. Has anyone bought one of these? Are they decent blades? The price is excellent, but price isn't everything.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I am pretty new so I don't know a lot of sword makers.

Dale, I have that gladius tho I changed out the fittings. I don't know if it's Deepeeka or not but it isn't what I'd call functional. The blade appears to be carbon steel, don't know if it's tempered, and it didn't come sharp. The tang isn't excactly a rat tail but it is thin. I'd say it's good for stage work or something of that nature. I wouldn't try to cut any with it. If you happen to want one anyhow you can get the same one on ebay for about half that price.

Nope...I think I would rather get a decent one. I will no doubt end up getting the Gen2 model. Right now I am debating whether to get the Gladius or the Greek Hoplite.

It is Deepeeka and I don't know about this particular sword, some of their items really aren't to bad for the price but others really are POS.

On the SBG main site is my review of a Deepeeka Charlemagne sword that experienced catastrophic structural failure - which is just a fancy way of saying "the blade fell off." However, I have heard that not all of their models are of that quality.

Some of the newer Deepeeka models have show improvement, it seems like they are trying to produce a better quality product BUT at the same time they have done little to improve their older models.

What a shame. Cheness shows that you can make a quality piece and still keep the price reasonable...at least the one I have sitting next to me proves that. I have no Gen2 pieces, but the reviews I read look awesome.

Gen2 makes a sturdy gladius tho not very historcally accurate, I have the pompeii which I'm quite fond of. I'll probably get the mainz at some point. As has been said Deepeeka isn't totally bad, depending what your looking for. I like the style of their gladii. Dale, which hoplite are you looking at?

The Windlass Classic Hoplite. Historical accuracy is not really on the top of my needs list. Basically I like the shortswords for their close combat efficiency, needles sharp point and quick snappy movement.
Although I am a decently sized guy, and I have collected a couple of larger swords, I can really see where these weapons could be devastating in combat. I would imagine thousands of men carrying shield, then basically crashing into one another, would create a close combat situation that would make a larger sword difficult to use.

I like the short pointies also. When it gets desperate and bloody up close, I'd like one of these; Well, not five, six and seven from your left. I question their functionality, but I like the way they look. btw, number six is the blade you first pictured with different fittings. I'm not big on historical accuracy myself. I think of the Gen2 gladii as more modern interpretations of a gladius. I bet a roman legionnaire would gladly trade his "historical" blade for one.

You are killing me! I have to get one of those. I think the straight edge will be my first, the I'll get a wasp waisted.
BTW- I have that exact same black panther tatoo that you have (I saw it in another post). That haas to be the most common tat in the world....next to "Mom." lol

Iskander, that is the Kris Cutlery Celtic sword (while not a gladius, I included it in the shorties). Here's a review; www.sword-buyers-guide.com/kris-cutlery.htmlNote the price has increased to $250 since this review. Here's a cutting video; This sword is a great little cutter. The only thing I don't like about it is it's Differentially Hardened. I bent it on a bad cut that is discussed here; /index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=512 It was easy enough to bend back straight and I still use it regularly.

Ouch..that is a good looking sword. I bet that really bummed you out for a bit when it bent like that.
I know the short swords aren't really designed as cutters, but it sure looks like the blades can handle cutting with aplomb by the look of your videos. I look forward to getting one of my own!

Iskander, that is the Kris Cutlery Celtic sword... Hi ric Thanks for the info. It is beautiful, absolutely beautiful. I contacted KC to find out the shipping charges. Now I'm just trying to make a final decision. The one thing that is putting me off a little (and I do stress that) is your sword bending episode! You know how it is...I guess ever so slightly, it starts to slip in my mind from 100% fully-functional to...well, semi-functional? I'll be the first to admit that I don't know much about swords so my apologies if this is not a fair assessment... But damn it is beautiful! I just caught a glimpse of it on the screen and I'm off again...! Ric, guys, would you envisage any problems with using this thing against a rubber tire? Am talking about medium to hard slashes - not thrusts... Cheers.
