yeah it was a ryan sword, the tip rolled when i bumped the kissakki against drywall, and then the edge severely rolled just from hitting my wood practice stand, which ive never seen another sword do on pine..lol Would you consider sending it out to be properly heat treated? If no, why not?

If no, why not? No, because it was already ground down to final specs and the edge would be much too thin and frail, and also because i threw it in the trash a year or two ago lol

I would have cut it down to pieces and made tantos and/or kwaikens. Oh well

Well i know i stand completely alone on this forum; well i dont care. I own actually four swords from RyanSwords: three 1095 TH katana and my modified Conan Atlantean copy. The katana are very well executed, nice balance, nice grips, average to good fitting of blade to saya, very nice blade finish, very good grip wrap diamonds. The Atlantean copies blade is just awesome; all is very straight and even, the runes are very well done. I personally had rather bad experiences with the famous Ronin Katana and the DSA specialists...maybe Ryan were ultrabad in the past, i dont know...i definitely never had issues with them.

As far as I can tell Ryan Swords are doing very well and are making a good business. Take one look at there Facebook page to see what I mean.

I like the blue under white color combination. That's sharp. (pun maybe intended)

I've bought from Ryansword as well and haven't had any problems. I haven't tried doing anything drastic with it, but I am very pleased with it thus far.

In a about a week another data point will get added to the RyanSword saga. One of their more expensive swords has been ordered. We will see if the higher price tag gets you a better fit and finish.

"Problems" and "good luck" are up to the individual to judge. Many people find nothing wrong with BudK and Shinwa and wall hangers from the flea market, which is fine if they are happy with them. I spot several things with ryansword that I would not be happy with and many things on other brands that I would be happy with. It's all subjective.
Boxy tsuka, overlaid samegawa panels, no hishigami, gaps in the habaki fit, weak bo hi termination, cheap sageo, gaudy fittings and average hamon are among the things I spot on almost every sword of theirs. I'm not saying their swords can't cut, most any sharp blade can, or that they fall apart in your hands but they are certainly not the amazing or perfect products some people make them out to be in my personal opinion. Everyone has their own idea of what a good sword should be and issues they find acceptable or not. I could suggest about a dozen other brands I would buy before I would consider a ryansword.

I am currently "sampling" multiple Longquan swords. A kind of comparative study. Part of the experiment is specifying hishigami on all (but one). It costs a small bit more $10-$30, but it clues them in I might be "picky". Thus far, two of them have been made with full samegawa wrap (including Ryans). Thus far, the best bargain appears to be Lyueswords, but all the swords aren't in yet.
