yeah thats fine if youd rather have a production one and instant gratification Justin, it would take me a few weeks to make one depending on how fast grip materials and stuff shipped. But if your interested in the future i can make pretty much whatever profile your looking for, within reason.

One quick note about Cold Steel Bowies: the Natchez and the Laredo Bowie knives are NOT full tang - they're actually cable tang constructions. I've never owned one of these personally, so I can't comment on how sturdy they are or aren't. I'd go with any of the makers from this forum already mentioned. Check out these pictures: CS Natchez Bowie tang CS Laredo Bowie tang

Be afraid the sheath would fail and I would cut my twig and berries off. I really like them where they are at.
The good old trail master is still full tang.

Look at southern comfort sheaths and how people wear those. You'll see up to a 14 inch bowie concealed IWB. That sheath style also works OWB to so it's awesome. Not to mention I usually only like my bowies in the 10 to 11 inch mark. Plus this will be a slimmer fit than say carrying a full frame 1911 IWB.

Plus if I wait I may be able to increase my price range on your custom.

I know that I'll primarily carry the windlass as a last ditch defense tool, but would they survive bushcraft in a pinch?

I know that I'll primarily carry the windlass as a last ditch defense tool, but would they survive bushcraft in a pinch? That depends on the tang. I've used mine to repair barbed wire fences. It was used to cut the wire and as a hammer. I've also used it for bush craft but its not as handy as a smaller blade. But it can be done.

I saw that Matt Easton of Scholagladiatora reviewed some poshland knives bowies, maybe they are woth looking into. By the way Jwest, how is your edge retention on the windlass?

I've looked at Poshland website. They have lots of cool knives made out of pattern welded steel (they say "Damascus"...). The thing I find is they seem quite inexpensive. From where are those knives made? I've search for that info but couldn't find out. Someone mentioned maybe from Pakistan or India... That could explain why they are so cheap. Heard before that blades from Pakistan are not the best and made out of questionable steel. They do mention for all of their "damascus" blades that: "The blade is Made By 1095/15N20 ALLOY STEELS (176 true Layers) Hand forged to Beautiful Pattern." But Poshland knives certainly have great looks. Do someone here knows something about the quality of those Poshland knives or have any interesting infos?

the problem with the india and Paki blades is that in most cases they are not heat treated at all and are only functional as display

Don't know if you're looking for something this cheap, but the schrade old timer bowie is nice... Especially considering it's $20 on bass pro ships' website... I have had one for a while, and the knife is very classic looking but the sheath is a modern nylon sheath. It's got a 10" long clip point blade that was so sharp when I got it that I shaved my face with it just because I could. It is a "high carbon stainless" but I don't remember the steel off the top of my head... I've had it for ~6 months, and it's still sharp enough to shave. It is full tang (it's a bit of steel with some handle scales on it and a small brass "guard"). Love the knife and use it well... For $20 it can't be beat!

Put that Old Timer bowie to real use see how long it will hold up. You get what you pay for and at $20.00 you're not going to get much in the way of a bowie.

Justin what did you decide on? And if you can please post pictures. Still unsure on production bowie knives, but I'm probably getting saito to whip one up around December after I finish bothering him about another secret item I'm designing.
