Holy crap... If someone now says that Rhinelander is a crappy sword he should think twice. You have pretty nice backyard to do cutting sessions. I'm jealous... May I ask how your polishing and sharpening looked like? What did you use in particular.

Sure. I documented the sharpening process. I'll post a video of that as well. Basically, I used sandpaper and water when I wanted the sandpaper to really "bite" into the steel, and sandpaper and 3-in-1 oil for the finer sanding. The method that I used is based on the sharpening videos that TomK put on YouTube.

/thread/23882Ancient history from when this was initially offered. I opted to keep the Windlass 15th Century over the Rheinlander, for aesthetic reasons. But concur with your review on the excellent handling characteristics of this Hanwei.

Thanks for the review. All this buzz about the Rhinelander is making me take another look at a sword I'd pretty much dismissed. As to the blade guard fit, it is exceptional nice but then again I have a few Hanwei euros and all of them have a pretty decent blade guard fit.

Honestly this is the only Hanwei Euro sword outside the Tinker line that I actually liked. It's a shame that mine snapped in half on me.

Have you heard of any other Rhinelander swords that had this problem?

Nope. The Rheinlander uses the same steel and heat treat that was introduced in the H/T line, which I would assume to be in general quite good. I've put my H/T Bastard through quite a bit and it has held up extremely well. I think I just got extraordinarily bad luck.

Awesome! That was the impression I got from your thread from a year or so ago, but I just wanted to make sure. Thanks for clarifying.
