And for your budget ($300-600?), you can get a very cool Huawey blade with a nice hamon (Jacky's hamon on t10 steel are really amazing for only 300 bucks!), or a good old Hanwei (made of dh steel, with quality koshirae and a heat treatment you can trust, or even get a second-hand swedish powdered Bushido).

I've yet to see a frosty T10 hamon from Huawei. The reverse polish defiantly doesnt qualify. In fact, when I asked her she not so politely told me to semprini off.

Thats a reverse polish mate, they all are. Im currently placing an order with tommy lee for a 36 inch nagasa L6 and another for dewtruction testing and composition evaluation for a very reasonable price. They making a tsuka with rosewood for me and the best rayskin with emperor nodes. Not the cheap production stuff. Cant wait to get my to examine it

Their $399 8-sided Han Jian (great sword) is not Reversed, it's Reverse-Reverse-Polish! So the edge is polished dark grey/matte while the 4 sided spine is mirror (or close to it) to show the lovely folds. The effect looks awesome as a whole. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=22815

Aurelian, what katana was that and which type of metal? Did you polish the blade yourself at all?

Hanwei T10. Clay tempered. NO home-made polish. NO modification. Jacky sold me such as you see it on the picture. Jacky sells these unokubi waki in hualee shirasaya - I asked him (Jacky is a male seller) to mount it in rosewood (wood wich comes from... lyuesword.) If you order to Jacky a T10 sword WITHOUT hazuya polish, you will get a blade similar to mine.

Well usually it will be Sophie who you speak with. Well me anyway. I've looked on there pics and can't find any images of a visible milky hamon. When i asked them if they could do it Jackie or Sophie said yes, then afterwards told me they can't and that was end of communication (typical). That just left me with the assumption T10 couldn't be polished traditionally. At least, I haven't seen any on eBay vendors.

@neo One : Tommylee85 and Lyuesword are the "same". 2 sellers, ONE forge. So your tsuka rosewood would probably be the same wood my two shirasaya were made of. Medium quality, I would say.

In fact, what do you call "milky hamon"? Something like on my previous shirasaya? Or a frosty one like on the Hanwei dh blades? And what do you call "polished traditionnaly"? A traditionnaly polished blade will cost you more than a Huawei!!

I know there the same but I'd rather give my commission percent to Li over Ruan because he goes the extra mile in customised orders from me. Glad you told me the rosewood tsuka is half decent. Looking forward to handling it when it's done. I actually made them aware of the poor tsukas you came across on a previous post and I let them know not to send me the same poor quality wood.

Frosty and I meant something that half resembles a traditional polish. NOT reverse polish.

Oh you meant Hanwei? Sorry I thought you meant Huawei. Yeah, Hanwei are the exception as they aren't eBay vendors.

Don't hanwei have a clever way of taping of the blade and hosing it with abrasive minerals though? They could frost anything with that thing lol
