I must say that surprises me about the magnum kukri not being good with the light stuff, however my experiences with mine were with heavier gum tree limbs and the odd finisher when culling......

It may be a matter of sharpness. As mentioned it was useless out of the box, and the lowest grit belt I had was 800, which I felt wasn't the best option (but I used it anyway). In essence, I didn't accomplish much more than removing the black coating from the edge; but I felt it was work sharp - and thought it fairly close in comparison to the others. I didn't want to worry about the edge on thicker stuff, as the style seems best suited for heavy chopping. Specifically, what I experienced was that anything that could move/flex in the direction of the cut did so - freestanding, thin stalked weeds bent or broke; whereas, unless they were somehow stabilized to limit travel, thicker vines had enough yield that they mostly just absorbed the impact. I am by no means finished with the work, and will be using each of the machetes as I continue. After I file the edge of the CS Latin machete, I will probably just use the Accusharp on both of them - to remove any variance related to sharpening techniques. Other things will be taking priority for a while; but I'll update again after a few more outings.

Yeah mine was utter rubbish to begin with edgewise I did the same thing with a belt sander now I can actually shave with it after a few strokes with a diamond stone :-) it would be wickedly sharp if I could bother steeling it,but that's not the sort of blade it is.

I have several Kukri's from small/normal to a 25 inch sirupati - all came truly sharp from the box.

Right on, Harald. Are you taking the file to the CS Magnum as well? I'd like to hear what that thing acts like with a proper edge on it. Not that I'd buy one, but I've heard from people around here, and now Big Pete that they're pretty decent toys. Aussie-Rabbit, A 25 inch Sirupate??? Who did you buy THAT beast from? Or are you talking about that 18.5" Siru from HI? Those people don't know how to measure a blade ... Either way, that's still a pretty decent Sirupate, man!

Kind of depends on when I head over with them again, and how much free time I have in the mean time. The weather, overall, hasn't been great this summer; and I've got some maintenance chores to deal with at both places before it turns cold. (And that's in addition to an increased workload this time of year in my hobby/business - and that takes priority over a lot of other things)
I'll fill you in on whatever sharpening I do when I update this again.

Here are some of the BEFORE pics, just for giggles The top edge of the yard, where the madness begins Hard to tell in this pic, but I'm at the top of the (steep) grade, looking over the lower part of the yard - as you can see, and as I mentioned in the first post, there's at least 5 yrs of growth. Again, looking down, from a different spot General mess, and that thing in front is a mass of thorny vines/brambles

This is after hacking at it for a while (I also cleared some of the area to the front & side & took down a bunch of weed trees in the area behind; which won't be visible until later pics)

Dang, Harald! Where do you live? That looks like the jungle I had for a yard in Florida! Well, happy hacking!

Looking forward to hear which machete has done the best job. Reading that the CS products are some kind of dull is very interesting, too. Have just ordered the Latin one to clear my own backyard. If it's too dull, I'll also sharpen it.

Yes it's a HI, overall 25.2 - blade 19.2, weight 1.2kgs or 2.64lbs - balance point is 7" tiring if used for a long time

This might be of interest to you guys talking Machetes right now, decided I'd like a good "modernized" machete for general use/carry sword (since I've become over protective of the sword I've had made  ) So I ordered this: www.condortk.com/productos-detalle.php?producto=56&cat=22Tracking says it'll be here Wednesday I'll post a separate thread on what I think of it when I get it.

A very stylish one. Looks nice to me. Already got my CS Latin machete. Out of the box it doesn't pop hair. But it's not dull. Effortless it cuts every green which I wanted to get a machete treatment. Good tool.

Sounds like CS is somewhat inconsistent, then. My CS Latin didn't cut things out of the box. After the first outings with it, I'm not terribly impressed; but I'm going to resharpen (using more familiar methods, this time) & try again.

I got the Discord today, you'll get a thread/review later-nightowl me was up with a pal setting up a very heavy pool table into the wee hours  so I'm a bit wore out and need a little sleep.
I will say this outright picking up the Discord you think less "machete" and more "sword" the thing is like a Chinese chopping sword

Man - this is the second time that someone has signed up with annoying intentions in the past month. First we had that scammer mass DMing everyone and now we have someone posting the same copypaste in the chatbox and a thread shilling machetes.

It's not their fault people are doing this, it just means the forum has become an 'obvious' target and so needs some more safeguarding on the front end so we get less of this.

Hi Well I go through many of the comments and get to know that you guys want to get the best machetes for survival. Well Gerber Bear Grylls Parang Machete is the best one to be used in survival. You may visit if you want to buy this amazing product. It the world best survival machetes. This Gerber bear parang machete is one of the top picks because of its high carbon steel blade enhances the more strength, corrosion resistance and also easy to sharpen. Its heavy blade makes quick work of branches and creepers. Somehow it is the most necessary tool for the Jungle. This Parang machete also features an angled edge, ideal for clearing brush or limbs. Go to a forum of idiots and they will be fooled. Perhaps try somewhere where they can't tell a quality product from a bad one. I had one of those machetes and it was nothing special

I do not know if I want to own machete. They are the weapon of choice for terrorists, drug cartels and pirates when decapitating a victim. I am concerned about being associated with one or more of those groups. 🙀

Why the cold steel hate? Sure the owner is a bit of a tool, but I'm happy with every one of their products I own. Admittedly the machetes could be finished a bit better, but 15 minutes on a belt sander got my magnum kukri good enough to lop through 1 1/2" thick gum tree branches in one strike. I also just got a new model barong machete, haven't really had it long enough to form a certain opinion of it except that it is one solid almost axe like blade that I reckon will be sweet as once I get rid of the crappy bevel on it. Overall I really like their gear except for the price we have to pay in Oz,the local sports store has a SK 5 Gurkha Kukri for $550 which is bloody ridiculous! Forgive me for asking but what did the owner of Cold Steel do or is doing?
