Well I will play devils advocate, That is a decent looking knock off, I have seen ads for much much worse. OP probably over paid for it by a healthy chunk, but he could have done worse in the appearance department.

I have one from the early Taishō period, 1912-1926, although there is some argument that it may be earlier still, as I have had it for 30 something years it pre-dates the internet and I know it's history. Swords such as mine are still found today in old stores, cupboards and wardrobes, even in Aussie dollars I would not part with it below $30,000 given the value will climb ever upwards. I too am curious as to what is written.

Excellent advice and that is what i did. I can, at least, now pretty much pick a Knockoff and steer clear of it.
