You can see how the shrink wrap did not close up on the end where there was no metal under it. Note that I left the remaining rubber under it so some of the lumps and bumps still show. SO be mindful of imperfections in your base. Attachments:

Just got back for the store......I have everything I need to make one hanger and cover it with some padding and then shrink wrap it...
I ran into a few problems with locating big enough shrink wrap....but we shall see how what i got will work....

There is shrink tape too... you wrap like a tape job then shrink it up.

Where?
The truth is that i got all they had at the 2 places i went to. The other shrink wraps are all 1/8th inch stuff and way too small to slip over the metal and padding.
Where would I find shrink tape?

Finished!!!!It took some doing, I made a few trips to the store, and for a while there I was thinking about tossing the whole damn thing into my burn pit! But I was able to start assembling the Kill Bill sword rack today. The trick is that until today as i tried to line everything up I had no real way of knowing if the swords would look like they should or not? My goal is to end up with a nice little sword rack that is based on the Kill Bill movie prop, and Im more or less happy with the results of this winter project. The new rack is close enough to the movie prop to make me happy. Im not a carpenter, and I have zero skills or experience with wood working, so this has been a real job for a guy to take on . Its mostly a type of art project. The twists and turns of the posts, the fact that you have to make the thing turn in your mind as you walk in the woods looking for dead sticks to use is a job for a artist. I think next time I will hire someone to make something like this...LOL But anyway, Im glad I made this, Im glad I ended up with something that is a nice match to the movie prop....and Im glad I now have some open spots for future swords!!! This will likely be my last post on this topic, unless there are some questions or comments to respond to. I thank everyone who had contributed. and I thank anyone who just stopped by to check out what i have been up to lately! thanks! Starting to assemble the rack against the wall. I had to keep turning the posts to try to mach up the way the wood twists...it was kinda tricky In the end I made the metal shelves that support each sword out of mild steel, with window insulation tape for padding, and then wrapped with black electrical tape The final look of the rack. Its more or less a good result and is close to the look I was going for. I made it to hold only 4 swords, but as you get more swords you can just slide the hangers closer together to fit in more swords. The movie prop has tons of swords on each of the racks set up in that upper room, but I only have 4 swords with Saya so this will have to do for now. I think that it would be fun to have a whole wall of racks like this filled with swords just like in the movie. Here is one last look at the inspiration for this art project....enjoy!

That is a very good job! Awesome looking now that it is assembled. Sorry that the shrink wrap did not work out at least you were able to work around that issue You know, now you might be able to have a little cottage industry creating racks for others! JK

So I was busy today working on the rack and bending the metal shelves etc, and really enjoying how things were proceeding, when along comes my wife and after looking at the rack mentions that "You should make more of these and sell them on ebay"
Suddenly all the fun was gone and she had turned it into "a job".....LOL
Im not a carpenter and I bet a guy with lots of know-how could make a Kill bill rack that is far better than my poor attempt. I just wanted a rack that had some "spark" to it as I think all the other swords racks for sale to sword owners are really dull and dont show-off any sword the way a guy wants.
most sword racks are the same basic design as gun racks. they are just designed to store a ton of swords with no thought a all for how things look.
i see a lot of guys on this forum with tons of high dollar swords, but the way they end up displayed they seem so much like what you expect to see at a pawn shop or truck stop sword display.....they got no "spark"
This must be why the art people on the movie Kill Bill decided that they could not just use a standard sword rack in the movie.....they needed a rack that showed each sword off to it's best effect......
I hope in the future my sword racks are able to show off each on my swords to their best effect too....

Thanks. I had made my first Kill Bill sword rack back in 2005 and at that time I was about the only person i knew of that had tried to make a copy of the movie prop. With this attempt I have learned a great deal of things that I would change if I ever tried to make a 3rd such rack in the future. The main problem I have is that I have zero artistic talent or experience, and no woodworking skills, so I have to just do this as best as I can by trial and error. I noted the movie prop seems to have posts that were curvy, but this fact got kinda out of control in my new sword rack. I went into my back woods on my land looking for sticks to make into the vertical posts that had nice curves to them, but as I walked along I kept going from stick to stick looking for even greater curves in the sticks. This was a mistake. On reviewing the Kill Bill movie clips again I now see how the curves of the posts are not very severe. The movie prop's posts simply look like straight sticks with slight curves to them. I went way too crazy with my curvy sticks, and that was a big problem because you cant just have one post curvy you got to find a 2nd to match it. It got to be like trying to line up to big "SS" shaped sticks next to each other. It's a tricky thing to pull off. next time I will simply find 2 straight sticks for the rack posts that i can not have to worry if the curves match or not. The other thing I would change in my next Kill Bill sword rack would be to go find a type of wood that is a lot harder....or not as "dead" as the sticks I found and used. My sticks have been dead for about 4 years...they show the sign of being in a state of decay that is associated with dead wood of that age....(In other words, if you look at them wrong they can snap in two on you) Lastly I would try to come up with a design for the little metal shelves that hold the swords that more closely follows the design of the movie prop. from the video of the movie it almost seems that the shelves are screwed into the wood posts, and so that hint that the shelves might actually be nothing more than just long bent screws or some type of bolt? UPDATE! Today I moved the sword rack into my sword room and had a look at it.... I change my mind, it's FLAWLESS!.....I love it! Attachments:
