Morpheus, it's interesting that a sword weighing close to 6lb with little distal taper (Thickness: 5.2 mm - 4 mm) handles fairly well, is it the weight of the hilt that balance up the whole sword quite well?

I believe so. It's my understanding that a shorter POB creates better handling and this one is at 3". I have a Hanwei Mercenary sword which is very close in dimensions to the DSA ranger and although the Merc is a pound lighter, it is a dog to handle compared to this.

Here is s bit more cutting I did with the Ranger today. Not bad for a crippled old man with a 5 lbs sword, lol.

You sure do handle that big sword well, even executing clean single handed cuts with it. I was under the assumption that my DSA two handed gothic sword was heavy at a few ounces over the 3lb mark, it's a lightweight compared to the DSA ranger, I'm going to have to go out and try some test cutting with it! Did you sharpen the blade or was it just factory sharpened?

Blackthorn, I had the blade sharpened by DSA, but after my initial review video which included some light cutting, I ran a fine wetstone over the edge to clean it up, as the DSA edge seems to be done with some type of grind stone. It's a decent and even edge, but I like it just a bit smoother.

Thanks, the reason I asked is because I tried cutting with my DSA two-handed gothic, which I resharpened to a appleseed/convex edge a while back, but because the blade is narrow and thick, It cuts cleanly half way through a large soft drink bottle, but then the angle gets too wide and gets wedged in the target, the bottle gets launched from the stand. Paper milk cartons work fine, but plastic bottles are no-go. I think the narrow blade makes for a wide entry angle, guess mine is more of a thruster than a cutter unless I reprofile the blade. I reckon the width of your blades makes it a good cutter, and from your video, it looks like the weight of the blade alone carries it easily through the target! Nice sword!

Great videos Morpheus, you certainly make it look easy was a little doubtful when you went the silver birch tree but you cleaned it up nicely, Il'll let you sum it up " Not bad for a crippled old man with a 5 lbs sword", well done.

Great videos!
At first the weight of the sword put me off a bit... but then, seeing the balance, how sturdy it is and how well it is cutting, all I could think of was "it's meant against tha orks". Simply, this DSA version seems to make perfect sense for a LOTR ranger sword. These were not meant for civilian duels or as a support weapon. This is not an elegant Elven archer side sword. They are (in LOTR, of course) meant as a primary weapon to cut through massive, strong, agressive orks. Lots of tha orks. And come to think of it, this rendition of the sword seems perfect to the task.
I mean, it cut down a tree! Not a branch, not a soaked tatami - a tree! And then it cut watter bottles easily one handed.
Impressive sword and impressive cutting. This really has me rethink the DSA. Perhaps their swords are overweight (I don't own any DSA sword so this judgement is second handed), but in this particular case it should be. Seeing as it handles and cuts - it makes me want one. Badly.
In the end, how do we know it is not the zombie invasion, but the ork invasion coming up? Perhaps they just rested after chewing up the last of their dinosaur frozen chunks and prepare to come back from their caves? If it's the orks coming up on us, forget your brittle-edged katanas, forget your machettes, forget your tactical wakizashis - grab the ranger sword! And if it's zombies - bring them on even more so!
Incoming +1 from me.
* Edited to swap "for orks" to "against tha orks" - I'm not that good in English as I pretend to be.

Yes, the ranger is for Orcs, and for other, lighter foes, I have my Fable Glamdring ( 3lbs, POB=1.3" ). It feels like a whisper in your hand.

Hi Blackthorn
The Ranger and Anduril Swords were purposefully made heavy (given the fantasy nature of both swords). The weights on both these swords are really different to any of our other two handed swords. When making them, I wanted to give them that extra “heft” so they feel brutal . In comparison, if we look at albion’s Conan swords, I believe they are 10 lbs if I am not mistaking. Obviously, their other swords aren’t the same weight. It’s basically to give them that “Fantasy” feel.
We just completed a new batch of Two handed Gothic Swords, model 1332. I haven’t had time to weigh them. I will do so tomorrow, but these are just at 3 lbs, if not lighter. I’ll have to check tomorrow.
PS: just completed our Nazgul leg armor today...nice ! I'll post them on our facebook page in the next day or two. Eyal,

Quite good I must say... Even though I don't post too often, I'm visiting the forum almost every day Plus I'm considering a new sword/knife purchase.

Thanks Eyal, I understand the swords you mention are fantasy swords, so the weight makes sense. Either way the the Ranger is an impressive cutter, solidly built! Curious to know what the new Two handed Gothic Swords, model 1332 weigh in at. Much appreciated.

I was curious about this sword as I sold my Rob Miller Ranger awhile back and ordered one from the SBG Store. The sword does not feel heavy in hand at all. I got an unsharpened one and was able to get a very sharp edge with a smooth file in about 45 minutes. Blade is not overbuilt and the weight is in the fittings.
