You can just have a kashira with a hole in it at the end, and hide glue the kashira in, peen it, then wrap. There's ways to make the knot at the end if you don't have a hole, say how guntos or tachis are terminated. Either you wrap it around the hanger, or there's a ring you wrap to on the kashira. Another option is to wrap it around the end of the kashira. Thomas Buck's book has examples of all of these. Epoxy wouldn't work as you discovered! It's better to wrap the ito traditionally, and use another finishing style.
