Since when did Aussies learn how to dicker? I though it was all "laid back" and "go with the flow" over there. Oh well, it was worth a try.

Alot of necro threads lately... Anyway i saw this knife 2 days ago my mate showed me at work. Really nice, i loved it too. I wondered how they get the leather to stay like it does on the handle? Beautiful, if it is only $50 i may just get one!!

I love it to death.
They use different sized leather washers, which they press over the tangs with a hydraulic press. Then they fit the buttcap over the end of the tang and secure it with a steel pin. They use belt sanders to shape and polish the leather. I think that they may also dip the leather in lacquer to seal it once it's polished, but I'm not sure.

Gotta learn something new every day. Reading this thread, checked out the links on Ka-Bar history. Learned the manufacturer of my Union Cutlery "Spike" straight razor is still alive and cranking out sharp steel!

Originals My scabbards. The WW2 type is the plain one. Another original. This one is held together by staples instead of rivets. Both are period correct. I've had one of these guys for over 30 years ,bought it when I was in the Army in the 80's and have used it ever since ,first in the Army then camping etc after I got out - the pommel and grip looks in the same condition as the one in the photo and it's got a stapled scabbard aswell- best knife I've ever owned

I had one from the 70's but traded it for a Gerber, wish I still had it, I guess postage on the new ones would be high

Still one of my favorite fixed blade knives. Lots of great things about it, not to mention its fine history here in America.

Reviewing at the pics posted. I feel so great as I am assuming own one one of those. Anyone could be be lucky enough especially the blade is so sharp. I would be careful enough in using in order not to be safe in using the blade. ____________________ automatic knife

Somehow, I managed to miss this review. I used dozens of knives during my Army career, but this was my "hands down" favorite. I have a Camillus version that I bought at the PX in Germany in '95 just before deploying to Croatia/Bosnia. It is the knife that just won't die. It has been tortured and abused. It traveled with me on numerous deployments after '95 (as well as a "back up" KA-BAR).
It is not "perfect", but sure does come close. The leather (handle and sheath) requires attention. I used to slather them in neutral Kiwi polish and brush it in with a green rifle cleaning toothbrush.
Between my M9 bayonet, a Normark Super Swede and my KA-BAR (usually the Camillus version), I felt pretty well equipped.
Great review of a great knife!
