Rifles don't need names. They have serial numbers I am not a number! I am a free blade!

One of my very first swords has Gilgamesh & Athena engraved on the handle, so I've always called it "Gilgamesh" ever since Highschool a long time ago. I also have a hammer that I made in Highschool metal shop that I've always called "Mjolner" well long before Thor became popular/known in Marvel movies.
Then more recently and because of Game of Thrones influence I thought I might try to name my 'Create Your Own Sword' from Museum Replicas. The name that lept out immediately was "Tallywhacker"! It just seemed right. This is a word I have never used and I suspected it was British slang for the male appendage. I looked up the definition and that really was it. So, I thought I can't name the sword Tallywhacker and I'll have come up with something else... So, I thought maybe I could just change it a little bit. Tallymaker, Tally, Tallus... Scorekeeper. Scorekeeper sounds kind of cool, but it's too close to Oathkeeper... After laboring over a new name, I realized that Tallywhacker seemed to just stick and I don't think I can take it back. It's settled; so, "Tallywhacker" it is. I just have to accept it.
Now, because I found this thread, it makes me want to try again and name some of my favorite weapons. I have 20+ swords, so hopefully I can do better on the next one.

Rifles don't need names. They have serial numbers I am not a number! I am a free blade! I called one of my M-16s Athena. Goddess of war and all that. After turning Athena in and being re-issued a new one, I call it Artemis. Just kinda became a trend for me. Of my frighteningly large number of swords, I've named two; my dojo pro #18 I named Shōrin (Japanese for Pine/Pine Tree) for the pine green handle, and I named a Kris Cutlery Jian "Biyōku" (Tail) for how the tassel dangled behind me. Naming swords for me happens just when the occasion strikes me.

You can name them all you want they still won't come when you call.........well, except for that hammer but that's a hammer, not a sword, so yeah, suit your self. It might be cool but I'm not sure I'd want a sword flying back to me at 90 miles an hour. Hmmm, I do have some time reserved at the pitching machine this afternoon...... :o Good point.

Might be a bit superfluous, considering there's actually been some fairly conclusive research into this. Probably the most referenced work would be Schwartzenegger, 1982, although personally I'm partial to Hauer, 1985...

I have 204 swords I just call them all "bob". It's useful when you be a senile oh foo to do dat. Well I did make one exception. I call my WEI Grenadier a Cheval sabre "Kim Khardasian" cause the hilt is too big in the back, and the foible is way too big in da front. Ta Ta, Tum. Pssssssh...
