Here's some pics of the grip scales, haven't cleaned the glue off. They feel like plastic to me, and have a swirl pattern in the valleys that appears to be from the finishing process.

Hey, so the Munetoshi Tac-wak showed up yesterday, and last night I tried to get the grips off to see the welded tang setup, but didn't get past the brass pins, I tried a punch and hammer but pins didn't budge, though they sure did scratch and dent, as did the grip. Its truly a disappointment to see this thing listed as a full tang item.

Geez, that nakago looks like a mess to me. I wouldn't consider that a "full tang" either. Thanks for the info

Hey plantguy90, the pins appear to be rivets similar to these: www.texasknife.com/vcom/product_ ... cts_id=957 It isn't possible to punch them out until you dremel or drill through the rivet heads on one side, separating it from the shaft. The shaft will be thinner under one of the rivet heads, but no way to tell beforehand. I got lucky and dremeled out the thinner side so it was a bit easier. Seeing how they've done this tac wak is a big letdown for sure, and has me thinking that the Honshu Tac swords are probably done the same. What I really wonder about is the Hanwei Tac series.

I was able to speak with Blake (bpogue) and he says the Hanwei Tac tangs are not done like this, but are true 1-piece full tang construction, with the edge visible between the grip slabs. Thanks again to Blake for taking the time.

Does the seller know you found this was not a "full tang sword"? I am wondering what they will do, change the description or let everyone else think they are getting full tang?
