The HT of the sword was done in my basement with a hand torch to get the colors I wanted to represent a truly non-human origin sword concept I was seeking to end up with

The smaller sword was even more fun to make. i changed the design a bit to reflect my own ideas about what would actually work the best in a combat situation. The original TV show prop is just metal with a thin wrapping on the handle. I made a copy of the TV prop and found it to be nothing a person could use in a real sword fight. I added a oak handle and brass pins to make the grip of the hand more sure when holding the sword. Attachments:

If you know the look of the real TV show prop then you can spot the changes I made to the handle design of this larger sword. I made a real oak handle for the hands to grip, and I made the wooden handle in such a way as to connect each hand hole in the sword. This gave more support to the sword as without the handle the Bat'Leth tended to flop being such a monster chunk of cut steel. Attachments:

Thanks....It was a while ago , I think about 2004 when I made all the weapons of the Klingon Warrior. I found that I believe I actually improved the basic design of the prop.
The idea of coloring the steel was one of the things that set off my design as being different than all the others you see on the web. i just felt that it was too normal looking to have a blade that looked like a normal steel blade found on earth.
The weapon should reflect a look that came forth from a different world with different ways of doing things.
The blade ended up being a mix of colors...

That thing is just plain NASTY.................................. Nasty, as in ' Ouch it's all pointy and stabby and it's gonna hurt me real bad'. There's not a Klingon around that wouldn't give his weight in Darseks to take that weapon to the head of a Romulan, good job!! As reference, a true heirloom Bat'leth is made from Baakonite, mined on the third planet of the Boreth system, and forged by a cleric of Kahless on Boreth which is located 18 light years from Qo'nos, and the location of the temple of Kahless. Just in case you were wondering....................... This guy needs some-

Cool! Real cool. Better than the typical one shown on TNG. I've seen a variety of blades shapes so yours is totally plausible.
The smaller one- that's a copy of the broken piece of Worfs batleth- the one he whips out while on the belly of the Enterprise in First Contact, right? Thats cool too. But I don't think it's supposed to be called a mekleth- I think those are double edged daggers.

It is a Mek'leth, and it is its own weapon.
Worf had one in First Contact because he purportedly preferred it to the longer Bat'leth.
You may be thinking of the qut'luch, or the daq tagh.

I think I'm due to watch First Contact again if I'm imagining something about a broken batleth then...
So what's their dagger called?

I believe that when Worf gets in a fight with the top Klingon and kills him, the thing he used was the busted blades of a bat'leth. Just as he was tossed to the ground his Bat'leth was snapped in-two, and when the other guy went in to kill Worf, he got stuck with the two busted points of Worf's Batleth

The shorter sword is the Mk'leth and was designed to be a more 'indoor" weapon.
The actor who played Worf liked it more than the bat"leth as it was easy to carry and use without needing a stunt guy to do everything.
